Job summary

The Canalta Group of Companies in Red Deer, AB is seeking a permanent, full-time Financial Reporting Accountant to join our finance team. You will manage full-cycle accounting, month-end closes, and prepare consolidated financial statements for entities within the group.

Responsibilities include preparing journal entries, reconciliations, GST returns, and supporting audits. A CPA track or progress toward designation is an asset, along with ERP experience and strong analytical skills.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of progressive accounting experience.
• Experience with full-cycle accounting, month-end close, and financial statement preparation.
• Experience with ERP accounting systems and intercompany accounting.
• Experience supporting financial statement reviews or external audits.

Responsibilities

• Perform full-cycle accounting activities and manage general ledger accounts.
• Prepare, review, and post monthly journal entries (accruals, prepaids, depreciation).
• Complete bank, general ledger, and intercompany reconciliations; investigate discrepancies.
• Prepare GST returns and other government reporting.
• Prepare monthly financial statements, schedules, and consolidated information.
• Conduct variance analysis and explain significant differences.
• Assist with month-end and year-end close and audit support.
• Maintain accounting policies, internal controls, and reporting procedures.
• Help improve accounting processes and ERP utilization.
• Support other departments and finance projects as required.

The Canalta Group of Companies is a privately held, Canadian-owned company focusing on the manufacturing and service of industrial control and measurement equipment, specifically targeting the gas industry and supplying products internationally. We are currently looking for an permanent, full-time Financial Reporting Accountant at our main office location in Red Deer, AB.

What will you do?

• Perform full-cycle accounting activities and take responsibility for assigned general ledger accounts and entities.
• Prepare, review, and postmonthly journal entries, including accruals, prepaids, inventory adjustments, amortization, and depreciation.
• Complete bank, general ledger, and intercompany reconciliations and investigate and resolve discrepancies.
• Prepare and file GST returns and other related government reporting.
• Prepare monthly financial statements, supporting schedules, and consolidated financial information.
• Perform variance analysis, and explain significant differences between actual results, budgets, forecasts, and prior periods.
• Analyze financial results to identify unusual transactions, trends, accounting issues, and areas requiring further investigation.
• Participate in month-end and year-end close processes, and help ensure reporting deadlines are achieved.
• Support financial reviews and year-end audits by preparing working papers and responding to auditor requests.
• Assist with maintaining accounting policies, internal controls, and financial reporting procedures.
• Identify and implement improvements to accounting processes, reporting controls, and ERP utilization.
• Provide accounting support to other departments and related entities and assist with finance-related projects as required.

Qualifications & Experience

• Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years of progressive accounting experience.
• Experience with full-cycle accounting, month-end close, and financial statement preparation.
• Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting, accruals, prepaids, inventory accounting, and intercompany accounting.
• Experience with multi-entity accounting and intercompany reconciliations.
• Experience supporting financial statement reviews or external audits.
• Experience with ERP accounting systems, such as Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, SAP, Oracle, or a comparable platform.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and time-management skills.
• Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and meet reporting deadlines.
• Experience preparing consolidated financial statements is considered an asset.
• Progress toward, or an interest in pursuing, a CPA designation is considered an asset.
