About the Client:

We're seeking a compassionate caregiver for a 76-year-old gentleman in South Keys, Ottawa who is experiencing anxiety and panic disorder. He has undergone multiple surgeries in recent years and is currently managing significant stress that has impacted his short-term memory and daily functioning. While he continues to work full-time in a job he loves, he requires support with daily tasks that have become challenging, including managing finances and remembering to take medication. He is currently in a convalescent home temporarily but will be returning to his own residence. He lives with his wife, though she finds it difficult to provide consistent support. The client is articulate about his struggles and would benefit greatly from patient, understanding companionship.

Responsibilities:

• Provide friendly companionship and emotional support throughout visits
• Medication reminders and dispensing from blister packs
• Light meal preparation
• Light housekeeping and tidying
• Running errands using the client's vehicle (must be comfortable driving client's car)
• Accompanying client to medical appointments and other outings
• General assistance with daily activities as needed

What We're Looking For:

• Male caregiver strongly preferred due to family dynamics
• Experience working with individuals managing anxiety and panic disorders
• Patient, calm demeanor and excellent listening skills
• Valid driver's license and clean driving abstract
• Comfortable driving client's vehicle for appointments and errands
• Ability to provide consistent, reliable care on the same schedule each week
• Understanding of memory challenges and ability to provide gentle reminders
• PSW certification preferred but not required

Schedule:

Three visits per week, four hours per visit. Flexible between Monday/Wednesday/Friday or Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday, with visits running approximately 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Consistency with the same caregiver is essential for building trust and routine.

Client is physically capable but emotionally vulnerable and requires reassurance. Blister-packed medications need to be dispensed and monitored. Client will use his own vehicle for transportation needs.
