Job description

Personal Support Worker - Georgetown, ON - CAD$162.00/week

Description

About the Client:

We're seeking a compassionate caregiver for an 84-year-old woman living independently in a senior apartment in Georgetown. She remains mentally sharp and lucid, though she's becoming more forgetful with everyday tasks like remembering where she placed her phone or things she needs to do. Her mobility has declined and she now needs support with walking and transferring. After initially being hesitant about accepting help, she's now ready and asking for assistance. Her family, including her step-son who lives nearby, wants to ensure she's safe, comfortable, and well-cared for in her own home.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide mobility assistance including help with walking and safe transfers
  • Support with bathing and personal hygiene
  • Light meal preparation including reheating meals and providing reminders to eat
  • Cleaning and laundry throughout the apartment to maintain a tidy, safe living environment
  • Occasional transportation for errands or appointments
  • Companionship and engaging conversation
  • General supervision to ensure safety and well-being
  • Gentle reminders for daily tasks and routines

What We're Looking For:

The ideal caregiver will make the client feel comfortable and respected in her own space. We need someone who is calm, patient, and brings positive energy to each visit. Reliability and consistency are essential, as is the ability to take initiative when needed. Clear communication with the family is important so everyone stays informed. The caregiver should have experience with senior care, particularly with mobility and transfer assistance, personal care support, and light housekeeping. English-speaking is required. Most importantly, we need someone who respects her independence while providing the support she needs.

Schedule:

We're starting with two visits per week, approximately three hours per visit. The family is flexible with scheduling and open to weekdays or weekends, ideally spreading visits across the week (such as Tuesday and Thursday). Visits can occur anytime between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM. If the arrangement goes well and she's comfortable, there's potential to add more days and extend the schedule. We're looking to start within the next week or two.

Additional Considerations

The client is 84 years old and lives independently in a seniors apartment in Georgetown. While she remains mentally sharp, she experiences some forgetfulness with everyday items and tasks. She has mobility challenges and requires assistance with transfers and walking support. The apartment requires regular cleaning and organization as the client has difficulty maintaining it on her own. She is open to receiving help and has expressed interest in having support. Family members live nearby and check in regularly. The caregiver should be patient, understanding, and able to help the client maintain her independence while providing necessary support.
