Job description

Developmental Support Worker / Personal Support Worker / Certified Nursing Assistant / Health Care Aide - Midland, ON - CAD$162.00/week

Description

About the Client:

We're seeking a compassionate caregiver for a senior woman in Midland, Ontario who is living at home with her husband. She has been experiencing dementia and recently developed mobility challenges following a blood clot that caused leg swelling. While the swelling has improved with blood thinners, she has become quite lethargic and is currently spending most of her time lying down. She uses a walker or wheelchair for mobility and benefits from memory prompts and gentle redirection. Her husband is still driving and managing well, but the household tasks are becoming overwhelming for him to handle alone.

Responsibilities:

The caregiver will provide light housekeeping support including dishes, tidying personal areas like the kitchen and bedroom, and managing laundry. Meal preparation assistance is needed, primarily reheating meals and providing reminders. Medication reminders are essential to ensure she takes her prescriptions on time. The caregiver should help with mobility support as needed and provide cognitive support through gentle prompts and redirection. Creating a safe, comfortable environment while respecting her independence is important.

What We're Looking For:

We need someone who brings positive energy and creates a warm atmosphere. Reliability and consistency are crucial - this family needs someone they can count on. The ideal caregiver takes initiative when they see something needs to be done, communicates clearly with the family about any changes or concerns, and has experience with walker/wheelchair assistance and memory care. Patience and calmness are essential when working with someone experiencing cognitive changes. English-speaking required.

Schedule:

Two visits per week, three hours per visit (six hours weekly minimum). Preferred days are Tuesdays and Thursdays in the afternoon, ideally between 12:00-3:00 PM or 1:00-4:00 PM, though morning shifts starting no earlier than 8:00 AM could also work. Flexibility with exact timing is appreciated as we work to find the right match. This is a semi-rural location in Midland, Ontario.
