Job summary

Quilt, Inc. is seeking a compassionate caregiver to support a client living independently in Ottawa. The role focuses on companionship, light meal prep, and gentle personal care for someone managing a life-limiting cancer diagnosis.

The caregiver will engage in meaningful conversations, assist with errands, and respect the client’s independence. Fluency in English or French is preferred; PSW certification is required.

About the Client:

We are seeking a compassionate caregiver for a client living independently near Brittania in Ottawa. The client is managing a life-limiting cancer diagnosis and is focused on maintaining quality of life and engaging in meaningful activities. They have an academic background in humanities, are knowledgeable about poetry, and enjoy tango dancing. The client values intellectual conversation and wants a caregiver who has active interests to discuss. They live alone following a divorce and receive nursing support from Ontario Health at Home every three days for ostomy care. A cleaning service handles heavy housework weekly.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare simple, nutritious meals


• Perform light housekeeping and tidying (no heavy cleaning required)


• Provide companionship and engaging conversation


• Occasionally assist with transportation for errands or appointments


• Respect the client's independence with personal care, which they manage themselves

What We're Looking For:

• Someone who makes the client feel comfortable and brings positive energy


• Calm, patient, and reliable with strong communication skills


• Takes initiative when needed while respecting independence


• Intellectually engaged with interests in arts, humanities, or similar topics


• Fluent in English or French


• Experience with light meal preparation and housekeeping


• Comfortable working with clients managing serious health conditions

Schedule:

Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings, approximately 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM (flexible and negotiable based on caregiver availability). The client is open to slight variations such as 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM or 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. This is an ongoing position with the potential to start as soon as next week.
