Job summary

Alberta Blue Cross is seeking a Payroll Specialist to join our Payroll and Human Resources team. You will manage end-to-end bi-weekly payroll for employees across Alberta, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely payments.

The role requires a post-secondary diploma and a minimum of 3 years of payroll experience, with PCP designation preferred. Workday Payroll experience and pension knowledge are assets, and confidentiality is essential.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary diploma in Business Administration, Accounting, HR, Payroll Administration, or related field.
• Minimum 3 years of progressive payroll experience with knowledge of payroll legislation and statutory reporting.
• Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) designation preferred or in progress.
• Experience with Workday Payroll (reporting, data validation, testing) is an asset.
• Knowledge of the Local Authorities Pension Plan (LAPP) is an asset.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Manage end-to-end processing of bi-weekly payroll, including data entry, validation, calculations, balancing, and payments.
• Prepare payroll reconciliations, statutory filings, working papers, and supporting documentation for regulatory and external audits.
• Ensure payroll activities comply with legislation, policies, controls, and reporting.
• Serve as main contact for payroll inquiries and support across the organization.
• Provide Workday Payroll support, reporting, data validation, testing, and upgrades.
• Administer pension-related payroll activities, including deductions, contributions, and remittances.
• Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes through automation and optimization.
