Job summary

United for Literacy in Grande Prairie is hiring Reading Program Support Staff to help run a 1:1 Reading Support Program for ages 5-12, focusing on reading, writing, and comprehension. The role collaborates with schools, staff, and volunteers to schedule tutoring and track progress.

Start date is September 2026 with a duration until June 2027 and an hourly compensation of $20.00. The position is part-time (15-20 hours/week) with on-site work in Grande Prairie and no phone calls, please.

• Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision and adapt to a changing environment/schedule.
• Comfortable working with computers, including basic knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Candidates must have or will have to complete a criminal record check including a Vulnerable Sector Search.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with United for Literacy staff and liaise with school administrators to coordinate program delivery (including the distribution and collection of learner registration forms, generating a list of learners, creating a tutoring schedule etc.)
• Read one-on-one and in small groups with children and youth with an aim to improve their reading, comprehension and writing skills
• Competently deliver a high-quality literacy program by implementing resources and strategies that align with our student-centered approach
• As time permits and with CC approval, support school-related literacy initiatives and create additional learning opportunities/resources for implementation across all schools
• Conduct reading assessments and evaluations to determine and track learner progress
• Support a small team of volunteers to tutor children and youth
• Perform administrative tasks as required, including tracking attendance, conducting learner assessments, collecting surveys/testimonials, entering data on Teams, uploading photos etc.
