Job summary

Extendicare in Ontario is seeking a part-time Life Enrichment Aide to design and deliver recreation activities that address residents’ physical, emotional, and social needs. You will coordinate calendars, assess interests, and work with the care team to support individualized plans.

You will attend in-services, monitor residents during programs, and maintain documentation in care records. A post-secondary qualification in recreation-related studies is required, with strong English communication

Qualifications

• Post-secondary diploma or certificate in recreation-related field from an Ontario post-secondary institution.
• Ability to read and write English and understand moderately complex instructions.
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with the care team.
• Ability to include volunteers in programs and oversee volunteers as staff liaison.
• Good physical and mental health; enthusiastic interaction with residents and families.
• Demonstrates maturity and reliability.

Responsibilities

• Implement and evaluate both individual and group recreation programs based on assessed needs.
• Set up and transport residents to programs; monitor residents during activities.
• Participate in care conferences and interdisciplinary care conferences as required.
• Attend in-service education programs.
• Maintain records of initial assessments and programs for each resident.
• Prepare and submit the monthly program calendar at least two weeks prior to month end.
• Develop and revise programs under guidance of Life Enrichment Director.
• Maintain program and resident records.
• Communicate participation by residents to registered staff.
• Adhere to department policies on quality assurance, fire safety, infection control.
• Work cooperatively with other departments to meet resident needs.
• Document in progress notes, MDS, RAP, Care Plans within 7 days of assessment.
