Job summary

YMCA BC in Vancouver is seeking a compassionate team member to support our inclusive before and after school program for children aged 5–12. In this role, you’ll work alongside a dedicated team to create a welcoming environment where every child—regardless of their needs—can thrive.

You will design and actively participate in activities, provide individualized support as needed, help children navigate conflicts, and model positive behaviours.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 19 years old.
• Experience with children ages 5–12 and delivering engaging programs.
• Ability to plan and lead inclusive indoor/outdoor activities.
• Strong relationships with children, families and colleagues.
• Adaptable to a fast-paced environment; reliable and committed.
• Familiarity with YMCA standards, CCFL, and health and safety requirements.
• Maintain clean, organized, welcoming spaces.
• Snack prep and program upkeep.
• Excellent communication, professionalism and confidentiality.
• Proactive with problem-solving and positive attitude.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office; ability to learn new software.
• Emergency First Aid & CPR certification or willingness to obtain within 30 days.
• 20 hours training in Child Development/Guidance/Nutrition required.
• Three satisfactory references; background check required.

Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver high-quality, age-appropriate programs for ages 5–12.
• Design and lead engaging indoor and outdoor activities that promote learning and inclusion.
• Provide supervision and mentorship to new staff and volunteers.
• Build positive relationships with children, families, staff and partners.
• Communicate effectively with participants and support fundraising efforts.
• Create a safe, inclusive environment that promotes belonging and confidence.
• Maintain active supervision and comply with safety, licensing and health requirements.
• Interact with children to deliver child-centered programming and behavior support.
• Provide individualized support and care plans; maintain enhanced ratios when required.
• Collaborate to implement inclusive practices across the program.
• Monitor spaces to ensure safety, cleanliness and professionalism.
• Prepare and serve nutritious snacks per health guidelines.
• Maintain confidentiality of information related to children, families, staff and operations.
