Job summary

YMCA BC in Kamloops seeks a compassionate Activity Leader (Substitute) to support before and after school care for children aged 5–12. You will design activities, provide individualized support, help navigate conflicts, and promote belonging in a safe, welcoming environment.

You’ll work with a dedicated team, maintain ratios, and follow YMCA and regulatory standards. Training and development opportunities, extended medical benefits, and staff discounts are offered.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 19 years of age.
• Experience working with children ages 5–12 and delivering engaging programs.
• Ability to plan and lead inclusive indoor and outdoor activities.
• Build strong relationships with children, families and partners.
• Reliability in a fast-paced environment and adherence to standards.
• Willingness to learn YMCA CCFL, health and safety requirements.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and provide supervised care.
• Strong problem-solving, initiative and positive attitude.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to learn new software.
• Emergency First Aid & CPR certification or willingness to obtain within 30 days.

Responsibilities

• Support development and delivery of high-quality programs for ages 5–12 aligned with YMCA standards.
• Design and lead engaging indoor and outdoor activities promoting learning and wellness.
• Provide supervision, mentorship to new staff and volunteers.
• Build positive relationships with children, families and community partners.
• Communicate effectively and support fundraising and organization initiatives.
• Maintain safe, inclusive spaces and ensure health and safety compliance.
• Deliver child-centered programming and guide conflict resolution.
• Contribute to care plans and maintain enhanced ratios when required.
• Collaborate on inclusive practices and monitor spaces for cleanliness and safety.
