Job summary

YMCA of Greater Vancouver is seeking a part-time School Age Leader for our before- and after-school program serving children aged 5–12. You will provide compassionate, strengths-based support, ensure safety, and contribute to individualized care plans within an inclusive team. Flexible with Pro D days and breaks, start date Sept 8, 2026.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 19 years of age.
• Experience supporting children with diverse needs in childcare, school, or recreation.
• Knowledgeable in inclusive practices and development of children.
• Ability to plan and lead inclusive activities for ages 5–12.
• Strong communication, discretion, and confidentiality commitments.
• Willingness to learn YMCA standards and health and safety requirements.

Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, strengths-based support for diverse needs and safety.
• Develop and review individualized care and support plans.
• Implement behaviour support strategies aligned with plans.
• Foster inclusive, supportive environments for all children.
• Deliver developmentally-appropriate programs for ages 5–12.
• Lead indoor and outdoor activities suitable for all abilities.
• Maintain supervision, health, safety, and licensing standards.
• Build relationships with families, staff, and community partners.
• Mentor new staff and volunteers, supporting teamwork.
• Deliver child-centered programming and conflict resolution.
• Ensure clean, safe spaces and prepare nutritious snacks.
• Communicate with participants while supporting fundraising efforts.
