Job summary

Covenant House Toronto is seeking an Overnight Youth Worker for the Resident Services and Winter Respite Department. This role supports a 24/7 operation, caring for up to 10 youth and coordinating with Case Managers to implement personalized plans.

Responsibilities include trauma-informed assessment, daily youth support, and connection to community resources. The position requires a college/university degree in child and youth work, 2+ years of shelter experience, and First Aid/CPR certification.

Qualifications

• College or university degree or diploma in child and youth work or equivalent.
• Minimum two years' experience in a shelter or residential setting using a trauma informed approach.
• Knowledge of adolescent developmental theory and street youth issues.
• First Aid, CPR certification.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of community resources.

Responsibilities

• Ongoing assessment and attendance to youth’s physical and emotional needs from a trauma-informed lens.
• Develop a plan addressing youth needs with the youth and Case Manager.
• Facilitate life skills and recreational activities through individual and group work.
• Meet with youth daily to offer support and assist with plan elements.
• Connect youth to community resources and social supports as needed.
• Complete intake interviews and facilitate discharges in consultation with the Shift Supervisor.
• Manage wake up, bedtime routines, room access, and laundry access within Covenant House.
• Provide individual counseling and behavior management.
• Monitor meals and movement of youth within the building and reception areas.
• Ensure safety and security of the environment; greet visitors and emergency services.
• Provide assistance during illness or crisis by contacting emergency services.
• Manage caseload of up to 10 youth.
• Attend Case Management Team meetings and related discussions.
• Document progress and activity in youth case plans daily.
• Collaborate with other departments and agencies involved in the youth’s plan.
