Your Opportunity:
The SHC is more than just a "hospital". Under the direction of the Bone & Joint Clinic manager, the Orthopedic Tech works as part of the healthcare team, collaborating to meet patient needs. The Orthopedic Technician is responsible for their own practice according to the standards of the College of LPN of Alberta, demonstrating competence in delivering safe, effective care for orthopedic patients. The role requires adaptability in a fast-paced, high-volume clinic, primarily in the Cast Clinic with occasional coverage elsewhere. Direct care includes applying/removing/adjusting casts, splints, braces, wound care, dressing changes, and removal of sutures/staples/pins.
Description:
As an Orthopaedic Technician, you will apply, adjust, and remove casts, splints, and traction equipment. You will observe, monitor, report, and document patient changes, providing safe, quality, patient-centered care reflecting AHS values.
Classification: Orthopaedic Tech Certified
Union: AUPE AUX
Location: South Health Campus
Hours: 7.75 per shift, days/evenings/nights/weekends/on call
Salary: $35.70 - $47.02 hourly
**Minimum Qualifications:**
- Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse program
- Active or eligible registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA)
- Completion of an accredited Orthopaedic Technician program
- Current BCLS-HCP certification
**Additional Qualifications:**
- Graduation from recognized LPN program
- Proficiency in English and computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Experience in Orthopedics and with EPIC in an ambulatory setting
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and clinical assessment skills
- Ability to work independently, prioritize, and multi-task
**Preferred Qualifications:**
- Member of Canadian Society for Orthopedic Technologists
- Emergency department or Cast Clinic experience
