Job summary

GFL Environmental Inc. Foxtrap Facility seeks an Operations Supervisor to oversee daily waste processing operations, supervise operators and drivers, and uphold safety standards.

You will implement SOPs, monitor KPIs, coordinate with customers, manage staffing, and drive continuous improvements while ensuring on-time project delivery.

The role emphasizes a zero-harm culture and adherence to health and safety policies, with opportunities to contribute to cost control and asset utilization.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Environmental Science, Chemistry or Technical field and/or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of three (3) years in a leadership, managerial or supervisory role.
  • Related industrial services operational experience preferred with knowledge of waste management and environmental services.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel and Word.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Health & Safety.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the daily operations, including planning, assigning, and monitoring work for operators.
  • Maintain the Branch Safety programs, documents and action items.
  • Ensure waste processing is optimized and monitor & report on KPIs for the facility.
  • Create a zero-harm environment and ensure that the team upholds GFL’s safety and service standards.
  • Liaise with customers and contractors, conduct site visits, and assist with quoting and tendering processes.
  • Provide coaching, feedback, and leadership to the operating team, as well as workforce planning and coordination.
  • Identify and recommend continuous improvements to operational processes and procedures
  • Execute work plans to keep projects on schedule and budget, and ensure maximum asset utilization
  • Conduct customer and regulatory reporting and assist with month-end inventory entry.
  • Report all incidents, safety infractions, non-compliance issues and participate in the investigation and development of corrective and preventative actions
  • Lead, motivate and develop direct reports utilizing Job Task Observations (JTO’s), Vital 9s and Hazard Assessments to reinforce or correct specific behaviors
  • Participate in the recruitment process and support the onboarding and training of new hires
  • Develop, maintain and implement standard operating procedures (SOP’s/SWP’s)
  • Facilitate safety meetings and toolbox safety talks
  • Ensure that employees receive levels of training that are adequate for the jobs they are to perform and that will ensure the preservation of a safe workplace
  • Inventory management, report on assets/liabilities.
  • Facility and equipment maintenance and housekeeping
  • Resolve and record all employee-related issues to and including all such issues that require the adoption/imposition of disciplinary measures.

At the GFL Foxtrap Facility we consolidate and process all types of organic and
inorganic, hazardous and non-hazardous, water, liquids, and solid industrial waste. Following safe operating procedures at our waste transfer facility, we maximize recovery of reusable products while reducing the volume of waste for safe, secure final disposal.

Reporting directly to the Operations Manager – Foxtrap Facility, the Operations
Supervisor is responsible for creating a zero-harm environment, maintaining efficient day-to-day operations, and for the effective supervision of the operators and collection Drivers

Job Duties
