Schedule: 80 hours bi-weekly; Monday to Friday from 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM

This skilled manual public works maintenance and construction work requires a good functional knowledge of departmental procedures and policies. An incumbent conducts physical assessments related to public after-hours inquiries and service requests concerning municipal sewer, water, drainage, sanitation, and road infrastructure, including areas such as roads, sidewalks, structures, medians, signs, road markings, benches, street lights, or bus shelters. Responsibilities include performing routine maintenance, inspections, repairs, removing or arranging for hazard removal, laying out, assisting, and directing laborers engaged in manual tasks, directing equipment operators and truck drivers to ensure safety standards, and documenting inquiries and incidents.
The role also involves operating city vehicles for transporting equipment, parts, materials, and personnel, maintaining vehicles, providing information to internal contacts, and performing related work as required.
Qualifications include completion of Grade 12, relevant experience, and possibly experience as a crew leader or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Knowledge of public works maintenance practices, safety standards, and city infrastructure is essential. The ability to assess deficiencies, maintain records, and prepare reports is required. Candidates must have a Class 5 Driver’s Licence for British Columbia; EOCP Water Distribution Level 1 Certification and EOCP Wastewater Collection Level 1 Certification are assets.
