Job summary

Metrolinx is seeking an experienced Operations Controller to oversee the daily GO Transit and UP Express network. The role requires coordinating incident management, emergency responses, and communications with internal stakeholders and external agencies.

This is a 24/7 in-office position at the Oakville NOC, emphasizing teamwork and hands-on partnership with leaders across the organization. The Operations Controller will monitor service operations, respond to incidents, and lead communications

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in a related field; combination of education, training and experience may be accepted.
  • Degree or diploma in Emergency Management/Telecommunications, Business, Supply Chain or Management would be an asset.
  • Experience in a Control Centre or transportation operations is an asset.
  • Environmental, safety, and regulatory courses or certifications are assets.
  • Excellent computer skills with MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint; quick to learn proprietary software.
  • Ability to act under pressure and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with unionized staff is an asset.
  • Must complete required training per corporate policy or regulatory agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Controlling, coordinating, and monitoring the overall daily operation of the GO Transit and UP Express service network; initiate incident management procedures to correct service disruptions.
  • Answer and respond to emergency phone and radio calls; coordinate responses from emergency services, RTC, and other business units.
  • Implement incident management processes; communicate service status updates to internal stakeholders and external stakeholders during recovery, adjustments, and delays.
  • Manage internal and external communications in conjunction with service recovery, adjustments, and delays.
  • Participate in various project teams and committees.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Our Network Operations Control Centre is seeking an Operations Controller. The Operations Controller directs, manages, and oversees the overall daily operation of the GO Transit and UP Express service network by coordinating responses to service incidents and emergencies, and enhances GO’s ability to provide safe and reliable public transportation services.

This is a 24/7, in-office role based at our Oakville Network Operations Centre (NOC) location. Our team is highly collaborative, and much of our work benefits from in person co-creation, relationship building, and hands-on partnership with leaders across the organization.

What will I be doing?
  • Controlling, coordinating, and monitoring the overall daily operation of the GO Transit and UP Express service network initiating incident management procedures to correct service disruptions.
  • Answer and effectively respond to emergency phone and radio calls and coordinate responses from emergency services, internal and external Rail Traffic Control (RTC), and other business units as required.
  • Manages implementation of the incident management processes identified in the Business Continuity Plan, coordinates emergency responses, and communicates service status updates to internal stakeholders and delivers communication to external Stakeholders during service recovery, adjustments, and delays
  • Managing internal and external communications in conjunction with service recovery, adjustments, and delays.
  • Participating in various project teams and committees.
  • Other duties as assigned.
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
  • Completion of a diploma in Business Administration, Transportation, or related field – or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
  • Completion of a degree or diploma in Emergency Management/Telecommunications, Business, Supply Chain, and Management would be considered an asset.
  • Experience working in a Control Centre or related experience in transportation with a solid background in the principles, practices, and application of rail and/or bus transit operations is an asset.
  • Environmental, safety, and/or regulatory transportation courses or certifications would be assets
  • Excellent computer skills with high level knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint with the ability to quickly become proficient in the use of proprietary software.
  • Ability to quickly assess and act upon situations in a fast-paced environment and to successfully manage under pressure and respond to critical changing priorities.
  • Excellent analytical, verbal and written communications skills with the ability to multi-task.
  • Experience with unionized staff an asset.
  • Must successfully complete environmental, safety, and other training required by corporate policy or regulatory agencies.
