Job summary

Metrolinx, a Government of Ontario agency, seeks a Director, Systems for its Rapid Transit Operations. You will provide strategic technical oversight across in-service and in-flight projects, lead change management and coordinate across ATS, S&TCS, SCADA, and cybersecurity, ensuring safe, reliable operations.

You will drive system-performance improvements, mentor teams, and align with stakeholders to resolve complex interfaces and ensure design requirements meet lifecycle needs.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Engineering/Architecture or equivalent experience.
  • Five+ years managing large, multi-year transit projects.
  • P.Eng. in Ontario or O.A.A. in Ontario is an asset; PMP preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic technical oversight across in-service and in-flight Rapid Transit projects from design to operations.
  • Lead technical change management, including scope development, reviews, variations and No-Objection decisions.
  • Lead Systems Working Groups and coordinate changes across ATS, S&TCS, SCADA, I&IT, cybersecurity, and other systems.
  • Assess changes for system integration, safety, maintainability, configuration and lifecycle impacts.
  • Provide leadership for system-performance improvements, investigations, root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to resolve complex technical issues.
  • Develop and govern Rapid Transit technical standards, design requirements and lessons learned.

We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. We are seeking a Director, Systems to join our Rapid Transit Operations department!

What will I be doing?
  • Provide strategic technical oversight across in-service and in-flight Rapid Transit projects, from design through commissioning and operations.
  • Lead technical change management, including scope development, technical reviews, variations, and No-Objection decisions.
  • Lead Systems Working Groups and coordinate changes across ATS, S&TCS, SCADA, I&IT, cybersecurity, and other operational systems.
  • Assess technical changes for system integration, operational, safety, maintainability, configuration, and lifecycle impacts.
  • Provide technical leadership for system-performance improvements, investigations, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to resolve complex technical and interface issues.
  • Lead the development and governance of Rapid Transit technical standards, design requirements, and lessons learned.
  • Apply operating-line experience to in-flight and future projects and accelerate significant technical risks, deficiencies, and departures from requirements.
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
  • Completion of a degree in Engineering/Architecture or a related discipline – or a combination of education, training, and experience deemed equivalent
  • Demonstrated years' of progressive experience in capital project management and implementation, including at least five years of experience managing large, complex, multi-year transit projects
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in the Province of Ontario or Architect (O.A.A) in the Province of Ontario is an asset
  • A valid Class “G” driver’s license is required
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is strongly desired
