Job summary

Caravel Law seeks an experienced Employment/Labour Lawyer to join our team and provide strategic counsel to employers across Canada. The role emphasizes flexible, remote work with opportunities to collaborate on high‑impact matters and engage with multi-jurisdictional labour issues.

Qualified candidates will have 8+ years in employment law, Ontario bar admission, and exposure to corporate practice; French language ability is a plus.

  • 8+ years’ experience as an Employment Lawyer in private practice or in-house.
  • Experience handling employment issues across Canada; corporate law exposure.
  • Called to the Ontario bar; French skills a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Advise clients on a broad range of employment matters including hiring, compensation, discipline, terminations, severance, reductions in workforce, and risk management.
  • Draft employment contracts, termination letters, policies, procedures and related documents.
  • Represent clients in the Superior Court of Justice, Ontario Human Rights Tribunal, Canadian Human Rights Tribunal, and mediations.

To keep pace with our continued growth, we are in need of mid-level to senior Employment/ LabourLawyers, ideally with large firm and/or in-house experience.

As a Caravel Employment Lawyer/Litigator, you will:
  • Advise clients on a broad range of employment related matters including but not limited to: hiring, employee compensation and benefits, discipline, terminations, severance packages and approach to terminations, reductions in work force and developing strategies for managing risk around employment matters.
  • Draft employment and secondment contracts, termination letters, employment policies & procedures and other employment related documents.
  • Assist clients to ensure their businesses are compliant with employment laws and regulations.
  • Advise on start-up operations including processes, policies and procedures.
  • Represent both corporate and individual clients at the Superior Court of Justice, the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal and the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal, as well as at mediations.
  • Assist clients with managing labour relations issues, including certification applications, unfair labour practices, collective agreement negotiations, and resolution of grievances.
  • Manage wrongful dismissal actions through all stages of litigation
  • Prepare for and conduct labour board hearings
  • Represent clients before government commissions and tribunals to resolve human rights complaints, including representing clients at mediations
  • Representing clients before the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board and the Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal
  • Draft legal opinions, motion materials, pleadings, and written submissions
  • Represent clients at pre-trial conferences, private and mandatory mediations
  • Conducting examinations for discovery in complex, multi-party matters
What YOU will bring:
  • 8+ years’ experience as an Employment Lawyer in private practice or in-house
  • Experience dealing with employment law issues across Canada
  • Corporate Law experience/knowledge
  • Called to the bar in Ontario;
  • Ability to work in French, while not critical, would be an asset
  • Knowledge of Immigration Law is an asset
