Qualifications

• Grade 12 and two years’ recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Ability to keyboard at 45 wpm from a recognized institution, completed within the past 48 months (non-supervised tests not accepted).
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• A Medical Terminology Certificate is requested.

Responsibilities

• Schedules and books outpatient appointments by receiving appointment requests and entering information into scheduling systems.
• Obtains patients’ charts, medical reports, lab results and x-rays as requested by physicians and staff.
• Performs receptionist duties, greets patients, directs visitors, answers phones and relays messages.
• Performs data entry for clinical registries and databases per guidelines.
• Generates requisitions for patient care and operational services; arranges patient transfers.
• Types technical and non-technical material using word processing, databases and spreadsheets.
• Maintains filing systems and conducts file searches as required.
• Arranges meetings and distributes notes or minutes of meetings.
• Manages incoming mail and prepares outgoing mail.
