Medical Withdrawal Service is seeking a full-time, permanent, Occupational Therapist. Reporting to the Manager of MWS, the incumbent will provide direct clinical care for adults who are experiencing severe substance use disorders often with a concurrent mental health disorder. You will provide client-centred care and ensure security, safety and the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO) standards of occupational therapy are maintained. Your accountabilities may include providing direct treatment for clients participating in inpatient programming through facilitating group therapy and psycho educational sessions; conducting a broad range of assessments including intake, physical functional mobility and psychosocial assessments and make appropriate referrals for new clients; and providing case management services for clients while they are inpatients and for a short bridging period after discharge. You will provide excellent, interdisciplinary care to clients with diverse identities; contribute to program development; and participate in the research activities of the program. You will liaise with other services at CAMH and with community agencies, as required, to coordinate service for clients, and will sustain positive working relationships on the inpatient and outpatient treatment units and with our internal and external partners. Candidates must be capable of providing supervision to Occupational Therapy students. You will be expected to contribute to program and CAMH processes, research activities, program development and evaluation, and continuous quality improvement activities. Workload data entry is a job requirement. This position will support work in other services within the Acute Care Program in the role of Occupational Therapist as necessary. Other related duties may be assigned, as required. You will support a workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements. Some evening and weekend hours are required (one weekend out of every three). This position is located at White Squirrel Way, Queen Street Site.

You must be registered and in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO). You must possess a Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy (or a Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy plus a Master’s degree in OT, Rehab Sciences or a related field), combined with a preferred three (3) years of experience working with individuals who have a serious mental illness. You must also have membership in either the Ontario Society of Occupational Therapy and/or Canadian Association of Occupational Therapy and be a holder of COTO’s pre-requisite Professional Liability Insurance. You also must be eligible for adjunct/status-only appointments with university faculties associated with Occupational Therapy that has affiliation agreements with CAMH.You must have at least1 year experience working with people in recovery from concurrent disorders and/or chronic pain. Formal training and demonstrated knowledge in concurrent disorders, harm reduction and evidence-based treatment models are critical. In addition, the successful candidate will possess demonstrated skills and experience in individual and group therapy and facilitating psycho-educational sessions for clients. The skill to conduct mobility and seating assessments is a requirement. Knowledge of community resources in substance use disorder treatment, along with experience in the team approach to treatment is required. Demonstrated success in engaging with diverse communities is required. You possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written), combined with computer proficiency. You will also have excellent organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to meet administrative deadlines. Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in other languages is an asset.
