NOTE: This posting represents a part-time (20 hours/week) contract for the duration of one year.

SCOPE
Reporting to the Manager, Community Health Services, the incumbent provides direct patient care to Concordia students, faculty, and staff during triage/patient intake and assists Nurse Clinicians, Nurse Practitioner and Physicians with procedures and assigned tasks. They are responsible for cleaning and maintenance of clinical/medical equipment and management of supply inventory in conjunction with Administrative Assistant and Manager, Community Health Services.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Carry out initial patient assessment of vital signs, point of care testing and data collection in collaboration with other clinicians.
• Carry out patient care testing (before or after appointments), provide patient instructions for specimen collection and other clinical tasks (e.g., medication administration and patient observation) assigned by fellow clinicians.
• Prepare, re-stock, wipe down exam rooms and ensure adequate medical supplies in exam rooms and supply rooms.
• Clean and sterilize medical equipment, prepare sterile kits for minor surgical/medical procedures (e.g. IUD kits, Nexplanon kits, etc).
• Verifies supply inventory, prepares lists for ordering supplies and re-stocks exam rooms and supply rooms once supplies received ensuring rotation of stock and discarding or returning expired materials.
• Assists responsible Nurse Clinician with maintaining the vaccine inventory and monitoring vaccine fridge temperature and functioning.
• Make patient calls and follows-up on tasks as assigned by Nurse Clinicians, the Nurse Practitioner or Physicians.
• Prepare chart summaries, requests for release of information and documentation of clinical data and notes in the Electronic Medical record.
• Identifies and intervenes in medical emergencies as per their scope and notifies a Nurse Clinician or other health professional as soon as possible.
• Familiar with a variety of tools and equipment such as autoclave etc.
• Participates in meetings with pharmaceutical and medical representatives, in conjunction with other health professionals.
• Occasionally participates in the training of other staff members in the safe and appropriate use of various clinic equipment and procedures.
• Maintains professional skills and knowledge up to date via ongoing training and continuing education.
• Ensure that the Manager is well informed, on a regular basis, of issues and concerns relating to Health Services.
• Perform other duties in support of the operation of the unit.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Diploma of Vocational Studies (DVS) in Health, Assistance and Nursing Care and at least one to two years of experience in a clinic or hospital setting.
• Member of the Ordre des infirmières et infirmiers auxiliaires du Québec (OIIAQ).
• Experience with equipment sterilization.
• Experience with an Electronic Medical Record.
• Good knowledge of infection control measures and sterilization procedures.
• Good knowledge (Level 4) of spoken English and French; good knowledge (Level 4) of written English.
• Have physical ability to occasionally lift/carry/move without assistance up to 11 kg (25 lbs.).
• Will require use of respiratory protection and enrollment in the university’s Respiratory Protection Program.
