Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Identify and resolve student and faculty issues concerning exams and accommodations.
  • Maintain liaison between ACSD, Exams Office, professors and departments regarding accommodated exams.
  • Assess student ability to use adaptive technology and assist in converting exams for accessibility.
  • Coordinate with IITS to ensure equipment/software availability and readiness for exams.
  • Troubleshoot assistive technology during exams and communicate with ACSD Advisors.
  • Inform students about exam procedures and deferral/defense options and run Q&A sessions.
  • Review data for online exams to verify accommodations and durations; register late exams as needed.
  • Assist in planning and organizing in-person exams and examination room logistics.
  • Follow up with professors for complete exam information; liaise with CTL and Exams Office on relevant info.

NOTE: This posting represents one evening shift position with a schedule of Monday to Friday from 2:00pm -10:00pm.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Help to identify and resolve student and faculty issues concerning the administration of the examinations, accommodations of extra time, as well as adaptive technology issues associated with/or related to exams.
  • Maintain liaison between the ACSD, the University Exams Office, professors and faculty departments regarding accommodated exams.
  • Assess student’s ability to use the assistive technology recommended by the ACSD Advisor during exams. Support the conversion of exams in an appropriate and timely manner, into special format and accessible to students. Work with IITS to ensure that equipment and software are available and in good working order on both campuses. Troubleshoot assistive technology exam accommodations (Zoom, text to speech, music, etc.) and communicate with ACSD Advisors as it pertains to student exams.
  • Inform students with disabilities on university accommodated exam procedures. Inform students how to apply for medical-deferral, replacement and supplemental exams and how to proceed during an emergency situation. Hold bi-weekly Q & A sessions for students related to exam accommodation processes.
  • For online exams, review all data entries as it relates to exams. Verify (on various online platforms used by Concordia) the accommodations of registered students to ensure that they are applied to an exam. Verify the duration of the exams to apply the appropriate amount of extra time. Register late exams and students manually.
  • For in person exams, assist in planning, organization, and implementation of exams, and the verification of exam packages to be returned to professors upon completion. Support in the planning and organization of exam rooms, and the filing and organization of exams records.
  • Follow-up with professors about incomplete exam information. Confirm the academic requirements of any given exam to maintain academic integrity.
  • Liaison with the Centre of Teaching and Learning (CTL) and the Exam office on any relevant exams related information as it relates to ACSD.
  • Perform other duties in support of the operation of the unit.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Diploma of Collegial Studies (two year pre-university DEC) and two to four years of related work experience.
  • Good knowledge (Level 4) of spoken and written English to communicate effectively with faculty and students; basic knowledge (Level 3) of spoken French.
  • Good knowledge (Intermediate level) of Excel; basic knowledge of Access and Word; ability to learn adaptive technology.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to deal sensitively with students and faculty.
  • Client-focused with a strong desire to resolve delicate situations.
  • Good understanding of disability-related issues.
  • Keen attention to detail and ability to multi-task.
  • Aptitude to work in a service-oriented environment as both a member of a team and independently.
  • Ability to work outside normal operating hours during the final examinations' periods.
  • Approachability (is sensitive and patient with others) and composure (is a calming influence in a difficult situation).
  • Knowledge of special software such as Kurzweil, Jaws, etc., to adapt exams received electronically into adaptive media. Demonstrated interest in developing skills in adaptive software.
