Job summary

School District No. 62 (Sooke) is seeking Noon Hour Supervision Assistants to join our on-call, temporary and permanent pool.

If you enjoy working with school‑aged children and want part-time work, this role offers 1–8 hours weekly at either an Elementary or Middle school. The district provides a caring, safe environment during non-instructional time and offers a starting wage of $28.56 per hour for five hours per week, ten months per year, September 1 to June 30.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 graduation or equivalent.
  • Up to three months of related experience.
  • Holder of Occupational First Aid Level 1 certificate.
  • Willing to authorize a Criminal Record Check.
  • Ability to follow district policy and Code of Conduct.

Responsibilities

  • Assists administration in supervision of students during non-instructional time.
  • Dispenses first aid and tends to children in the sick room.
  • Responsible for lunch, snack and clean-up routines.
  • May assist children with clothing as required.
  • Performs related work such as bus loading/unloading.

What we offer

  • Payment of an Occupational First Aid Level 1 Training course
  • A starting wage of $28.56 per hour, five hours per week, 10 months per year (September 1 to June 30)
  • Opportunities for other positions at the District such as custodial, school meals program coordinators, noon-hour or bus supervision assistant, crossing guards and more

Once you are permanent you will get:

  • Paid vacation during Winter and Spring Break (as per the CUPE Local 459 Collective Agreement)
  • Two (2) Professional Developments days and one (1) Self-Directed Professional Development day per school year plus access to additional funds for further professional development such as course fees

What you need to apply...

As a Supervision Assistant, we are looking for candidates that have a passion for working with children and demonstrate patience and understanding to support a welcoming and safe environment for children. Candidates should also have the following education and experience:

  • Secondary school graduation
  • Up to three months of related experience working with school-aged children
  • Holds (or willing to get) a valid Occupational First Aid Level 1 Certificate
  • Willing to authorize the completion of a required Criminal Record Check

RESPONSIBLE TO:Principal

JOB GOAL:To assist in providing a well organized, supervised school environment in which students can take full advantage of their non-instructional time.

Performance Responsibilities:
