Job summary

School District No. 62 (Sooke) is seeking on-call School Meals Program Coordinators to support lunchtime service across elementary or middle schools. This role is part-time, on-site, and involves assisting with lunch distribution and supervision.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Distribute lunches to students and assist in lunch service.
  • Oversee collection of monies from students and balance receipts.
  • Determine monthly parental contributions based on per-meal amount.
  • Maintain records of lunch program participants and administer forms.
  • Assist in supervision of students during lunch and cleanup of serving area.
  • Communicate serving numbers to the caterer and ensure accurate ordering.
  • Report program progress to administrator and prepare input for year-end ministry report.

School Meals Program Coordinators play a vital role in the lives of children at our schools by assisting to provide lunches during their lunch time. Assignments are one hour a day working at either an

Elementary (Grades K-5) or Middle (Grades 6-8) School.

Adjacent to Victoria on southern Vancouver Island, School District No. 62 (Sooke) is the fastest growing school district on Vancouver Island and one of the fastest growing districts in BC. The District operates in five municipalities: Langford, Colwood, Metchosin, Sooke and the Highlands and acknowledges the traditional territories of the Coast Salish: TSou-ke Nation and Scianew Nation and Nuu-chah-nulth: Pacheedaht Nation. What you need to apply...

As a School Meals Program Coordinator, we are looking for candidates that have a passion for working with children and demonstrate patience and understanding to support a welcoming and safe environment for children. They will assist in the distribution of lunches for the lunch program. Candidates should also have the following education and experience:

  • Secondary school graduation
  • Up to three months of related experience working with school-aged children
  • Holds (or willing to get) a valid FoodSafe Level 1 Certificate
  • Willing to authorize the completion of a required Criminal Record Check

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of secondary school, coupled with successful completion of the Foodsafe Basic Level Course or be willing to undertake the course and have some related experience.
  • A demonstrated aptitude for the work to be performed.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with young students, teachers and other adults.
  • An ability to keep a simple set of books.
  • Appreciation of the confidential nature of all information relating to students, parents and teachers.

RESPONSIBLE TO: School Administrative Officers and Community LINK Coordinator

SUPERVISES: N/A

JOB GOAL: To provide a well organized, smoothly functioning school lunch program.

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Provides feedback on upcoming menus to the caterer and administration on a regular basis.
  • Ensures menus are printed and distributed to all students.
  • Oversees the collection of monies from the students and balances with receipts.
  • Determines the monthly parental contributions, based on a set per meal amount, and prepares monthly consent forms for distribution to students.
  • Keeps track of lunch program participants.
  • Assists in duties relating to the supervision of students.
  • Helps with the meal service and clean up of the serving area after each meal.
  • Monitors the amount of food consumed as well as the students' likes and dislikes.
  • Ensures the correct number of servings required is communicated to the caterer for ordering.
  • Reports the progress of the program to the administrator and Community LINK Coordinator and prepares input for the year-end report for the Ministry.
