Job description

  • Perform comprehensive preventative maintenance as listed in EMTS and make timely repairs such that all ranch vehicles and equipment are maintained in good operating condition by the required deadline.
  • Maintain and continuously improve unit infrastructure such as keeping all residences, facilities, corrals and other infrastructure in good repair.
  • Maintain accurate running inventory of required parts and equipment.
  • Submit accurate reports in a timely manner.
  • Assist the Ranch Foreman with cattle work to accomplish the activities listed on the cattle timeline of events.
  • Perform livestock procedures including artificial insemination, pregnancy testing, breeding soundness exams, etc.
  • Operate at or below annual cost goals, make maintenance recommendations for annual capital and operating budgets and improve job efficiency.
  • Champion a best-in-class safety program by promoting consistent safety training attendance, compliance with all federal and company/industry policies, as well as encouraging the use of PPE and adherence to all other EHS programs.
  • Build relationships and communicate effectively with coworkers, neighboring farms and other business partners, while representing AgReserves and the ranch professionally at all times.

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years minimum experience in mechanical, equipment operation, and repair work.
  • Basic herdsman/ranching skills and cattle production knowledge.
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on ranch vehicles and farm equipment.
  • Must have a valid Alberta Driver’s License, or a legally accepted driver's license with ability to obtain/exchange for an Alberta Driver's License within 90 days.
  • Ability to operate a tractor with implements and be able to hook up and detach the implements.
  • Team-oriented, solid communication skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Able to work in the external environmental conditions (snow, rain, heat, cold, etc.), an average 48-hour work week with an average 9-hour work day including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Meet the physical requirements of the role which includes work standing most of the day, riding a horse for 6+ hours per day, continually lifting up to 75lbs., and push/pull/drag up to 200lbs. as well as doing all the physical activities and procedures normal to animal husbandry.
