Job description

We are looking for a talented Remote Field Service Technician to join our team in Thunder Bay.

We seek a diesel technician willing and able to work in various locations from Winnipeg to Thunder Bay in a field service technician role. This is a customer-facing position. We desire a new team member who is accountable, reliable, and dependable. This position offers a $5,000 sign-on bonus.

In this role, you will make an impact by:

  1. Completing preventative maintenance and basic repair activities on engines and related components at customer sites with minimal direction.
  2. Engaging customers courteously and professionally, ensuring prompt and efficient attention to their needs.
  3. Using specialized tools and following documented procedures to diagnose and complete basic repairs, including preparing parts and tools.
  4. Performing preventative maintenance as per schedules and standards on engines and components in the field.
  5. Escalating unresolved issues to more experienced technicians or supervisors.
  6. Maintaining service vehicles and tools for cleanliness and proper operation.
  7. Completing documentation such as service worksheets, timesheets, warranty claims, and quality documents via handwritten forms or business system input screens.
  8. Identifying additional service opportunities with customers.
  9. Completing training aligned with skill and business requirements.
  10. Adhering to all relevant Health, Safety & Environmental policies, procedures, and legislation, and reporting issues or incidents to management and supervisors.

Responsibilities

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Education, Licenses, Certifications: Red Seal certification in HET or Truck and Transport is preferred. A valid local driver's license may be required for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
  • Experience: Minimal workshop-related experience required. Basic knowledge or experience with engine products. Basic electrical knowledge is an asset. NORCAT certification and Cummins engine diagnostics and repairs are assets.
  • Maintain an electronic logbook of hours as per NSC requirements.
  • Complete all task-related documentation daily.
  • Willingness to travel for formal in-class training.
  • Possession of a basic set of technician hand tools.
  • Working hours are Monday to Friday, 8 am to 4:30 pm, with some overtime including weekends to support customer needs. After-hours rotational on-call for two-week periods.

Compensation and Benefits

Base salary is commensurate with experience. Benefits vary by location and may include a company pension plan, medical/dental/life insurance, Health Savings Account, and other personal and professional benefits.
