Job summary

Interior Health Authority is seeking an experienced Medical Laboratory Assistant to join the Medical Laboratory Department at Cariboo Memorial Hospital in Williams Lake, BC. You will be part of a close-knit lab team, handling specimen collection, preparation and analysis in a fast-paced hospital setting.

The role offers opportunities for growth, exposure to diverse cases, and shifts Tuesday to Saturday, day and evening, within a supportive IH network.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Medical Laboratory Assistant in a hospital setting.
• Ability to take blood and specimen samples, prepare samples for analysis, and perform routine tests.
• Capable of working in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary team.

• Prepare specimens for analysis and perform routine laboratory tests.

About The Job

Cariboo Memorial Hospital (CMH) has 28 inpatient beds, 14 Emergency beds plus a trauma room, in addition to a 4-bed ICU and obstetrics unit. CMH is a very close-knit team of multi-disciplinary professionals, and we pride ourselves on supporting one another in the Lab, and across the facility.

The fast pace, acuity and unique needs of every patient offer the opportunity to learn and develop your skill set. CMH is a diverse care environment that is undergoing expansion and there are opportunities in the Lab and other departments, as the site and community grows. You will be a part of the bigger IH network with access to colleagues, resources, employee services, education and training; whatever direction your career takes you.

Medical Laboratory Assistants perform a variety of duties such as taking blood and specimen samples from patients, preparing blood and other specimens for analysis, performing routine laboratory tests, distributing specimens to departments and outside Laboratories, operating related equipment, entering data into the Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and performing related clerical duties and ECG testing as required.

This is a Permanent Full Time (1.00) opportunity.

Shifts of work will be scheduled Tuesday to Saturday, day and evening shifts.
