Job summary

Interior Health is seeking an experienced Medical Laboratory Assistant to join the Medical Laboratory Department at Shuswap Lake General Hospital in Salmon Arm, BC. The position rotates through the hospital and off-site outpatient lab, with relief Part Time (0.71) status and rotating day and evening shifts.

Ideal candidates will have Grade 12, MLA training, and one year of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and training. Canadian driver’s license may be required.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 plus completion of a recognized MLA training program.
• One year of recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Responsibilities

• Take blood samples and specimen collection.
• Process specimens and operate related equipment.
• Enter data into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and perform related clerical duties.
• Perform ECG testing as required.
• Rotate through the hospital and off-site outpatient lab.

About the Job

Shuswap Lake General Hospital is a 42-bed hospital in the Thompson-Cariboo-Shuswap health service area. Located in Salmon Arm, B.C., the hospital offers services including surgical, inpatient, obstetrics and 24-hour emergency.

Medical Laboratory Assistants (MLA) perform a variety of duties such as taking blood, specimen processing, operating related equipment, entering data into the Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and performing related clerical duties and ECG testing as required. This position will rotate through the hospital and the off-site outpatient lab.

This is a Relief Part Time (0.71) opportunity until the return of the incumbent.

Shifts of work will be scheduled rotating days and evenings.

Qualfications

• Grade 12, successful completion of a recognized Laboratory Assistant training program, plus one year's recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
• Canadian Driver’s License as required by position
• Ability to type 25 WPM *5 minute invigilated typing test dated within the past 48 months from an approved institution. Please note we do not accept self-administered online tests*
