The Listowel Wingham Hospitals Alliance is seeking a Medical Devices Reprocessing Technician for the Huron and Perth region. The role focuses on sterilizing medical supplies used throughout the hospital, with day shifts and occasional weekends/holidays.

A supportive team and established MDRD protocols ensure patient safety and quality care. You will ensure proper instrument processing, maintain sterilization equipment, and monitor environmental conditions in MDRD, OR, and related areas.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of Medical Device Reprocessing Techniques Course.
  • 6 months MDRD department experience preferred in an acute care facility.
  • Knowledge of MDRD equipment and devices is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Provide sterilized and clean instruments, rigid scopes, bundles, etc. for the OR and hospital.
  • Adhere to CSAO standards in daily practice.
  • Document all processes in MDRD records.
  • Maintain MDRD equipment with daily/weekly checks and documentation.
  • Know categories of surgical instrumentation and appropriate use.
  • Operate steam and sterilization procedures correctly.

The Listowel Wingham Hospitals Alliance was formed on July 1, 2003 as a partnership between Listowel Memorial Hospital and Wingham and District Hospital. We share a common management structure with one CEO. We have a commitment to partnership and common Mission, Vision and Values. The Alliance Board consists of both hospital boards combined. We look for opportunities to create and share services and programs across our two communities and to look for creative ways to link to our community partners.
The Listowel Memorial Hospital has been providing acute care and complex continuing care services to the residents of North Perth and the hospital’s catchment area since 1919. Our fully accredited hospital offers a wide range of primary and secondary services including 24-hour emergency services. In-patient and out-patient care, specialist clinics and supportive diagnostic services. The Hospital has an active staff of 10 Family Practitioners as well as several consultant staff.
Hospital services include:

  • Emergency, Operating Rooms, Diagnostic and Ambulatory Care Units (December 2007)
  • Maternal/Newborn Unit
  • Diabetes/Nutrition Counseling
  • Speech-Language
  • Physiotherapy
  • Breast Health Centre
  • Fully integrated electronic patient health record with Family Health Team and Physician offices.

The Wingham and District Hospital is a modern, progressive acute care facility providing medical, surgical, obstetrical, paediatric, chronic and rehabilitation bed and other services, including 24-hour emergency coverage.
Hospital services include:

  • Emergency department with 24-hour on-call coverage
  • Rehabilitation department including physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech language pathology
  • Multiple outpatient specialist clinics held on a regular basis to provide local service
  • Affiliation with London Regional Cancer Centre enabling chemotherapy treatment to be provided locally
  • Many community health related education programs
  • Fully integrated electronic patient health record with Family Health Team and Physician offices.

Medical Devices Reprocessing Technician

Description:

The Medical Devices ReprocessingTechnician is responsible for the sterilization of Medical supplies used throughout the hospital facility.
The successful candidate will be available Monday to Friday for day shifts. Hours are subject to change. Some weekends and holidays may be required.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide sterilized and clean instruments, ridged scopes, flexible scopes, bundles etc. for the OR on a daily basis as well as all areas of the hospital.
  • Demonstration of adherence to the CSAO standards in daily practice.
  • Documentation of all processes completed in MDRD.
  • Maintain equipment with daily and weekly checks and document.
  • Know categories of surgical instrumentation.
  • Good working knowledge of medical supplies and sterilization equipment required including biological and chemical sterilization indicators.
  • Able to operate and understand steam and sterilization procedures.
  • Monitor MDRD, OR and OR Bundle Room for temperature, humidity, and record.
  • Assist turning over OR rooms between OR cases.
Qualifications:
  • High School Graduation Diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of Medical Device Reprocessing Techniques Course
  • 6 months of Medical Device Reprocessing Department experience in an acute care facility preferred
  • Knowledge of MDRD equipment and devices an asset
  • Moderate Physical Effort
  • Average degree of mental effort and analysis
Salary:

$29.69 - $31.55 per hour
