Job summary

AV Group NB Inc. in Atholville, NB, is seeking a Mechanical Maintenance Superintendent to lead a team responsible for the safe, reliable maintenance of our pulp mill equipment. The role drives preventative and predictive maintenance aligned with production goals.

You will collaborate with operations, engineering, and reliability teams, supervise supervisors and tradespeople, and plan shutdowns with a focus on cost control and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years post-secondary education.
• 3 years’ experience in a similar position.
• Pulp mill experience is an asset.
• Experience in a unionized environment is an asset.
• Excellent problem-solving, planning, and communication skills.
• Demonstrated commitment to safety and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

Mechanical Maintenance Superintendent

Role Overview

Reporting to Maintenance Manager, this leadership role is critical in ensuring the safe, reliable, and cost-effective performance of all mechanical maintenance functions across the site.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise a team of mechanical maintenance supervisors and tradespeople.
• Oversee day-to-day mechanical maintenance operations to ensure equipment reliability, plant uptime, and efficient resource utilization.
• Develop and manage preventative and predictive maintenance programs aligned with mill production goals.
• Collaborate with operations, engineering, and reliability teams to diagnose equipment issues and implement effective solutions.
• Plan and execute mechanical shutdown activities, including budgeting, scheduling, manpower planning, and safety compliance.
• Ensure all work is performed in compliance with applicable OH&S legislation, ISO 140001 and AV Group NB Inc. policies, procedures, & guidelines.
• Support capital project implementation, including design input, installation oversight, and commissioning support.
• Monitor maintenance KPIs and drive continuous improvement in maintenance performance, cost control, and asset management.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years post-secondary education. Preference will be given to those with a Mechanical background;
• 3 years’ experience in a similar position;
• Previous Pulp Mill experience would be considered an asset;
• Experience working in a unionized environment considered an asset.
• Excellent problem-solving, planning, and communication skills.
• Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and regulatory compliance.
