Job summary

PCL Constructors Canada Inc. is seeking a Mechanical & Electrical Estimating Student for our Toronto District office. The role runs for 4 to 8 months starting in January 2027 and offers hands-on experience in estimating and procurement within a construction environment.

The position involves learning estimating manuals, reviewing quantity surveys, compiling materials for pricing, and engaging with subcontractors. Strong interest in construction and the ability to read drawings are essential.

Qualifications

• Candidates must have taken a building envelope or building science course and understand the fundamental control layers in the building envelope (air, water, vapour and thermal control).
• Candidates must have a strong desire to work in a construction environment, able to read architectural drawings, and prior field construction experience will be considered an asset.
• Application of various computer software programs will be required, including word processing, spreadsheet applications and drafting.

Responsibilities

• Understand and utilize PCL’s estimating manuals, systems and forms.
• Review quantity survey assignment with lead estimator or Chief Estimator.
• Perform assigned quantity survey and transfer quantities to the lead estimator.
• Provide quantities of major purchase items to purchasing department for pricing.
• Create an impact by performing general subtrade solicitation duties and helping with bid document control.
• Possess bid day assignment opportunities.
• Experience visiting job sites periodically.
• Develop relationships with subcontractors.
• Perform other duties as required.

The estimated hourly range for this role is $21.37- $31.33, based on your experience and qualifications. Final compensation will be confirmed as part of a personalized offer.
