Job summary

PCL Constructors Canada Inc. in Halifax, Nova Scotia, invites applications for an Estimating Student position for a 4-month term starting January 2027. You will gain hands-on experience, work with our estimating team, and support bid-related activities across the Atlantic Canada district.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree or diploma in civil engineering or related field.
• Proficient use of word processing, spreadsheets, and drafting software.
• Ability to read blueprints.
• Familiarity with contract types such as Lump Sum, Design-Build, and PM/CM.
• Construction work interest and prior field experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Understand and use PCL estimating manuals, systems and forms.
• Review quantity survey assignment with lead estimator or Chief Estimator.
• Perform assigned quantity survey.
• Provide quantities of major purchase items to purchasing for pricing.
• Transfer quantities to lead estimator.
• Bid document control.
• Perform bid day assignments.
• Visit job sites periodically.
• Develop relationships with subcontractors.
• Other duties as assigned.

Join us as an Estimating Studentfor our Atlantic Canadadistrict, within our Canadian Buildings sectorfor 4 months starting January 2027. Depending on your assigned project as an Estimating Student, you will have the opportunity to contribute to our team by:

• Understanding and utilizing PCL's estimating manuals, systems and forms.
• Reviewing quantity survey assignment with lead estimator or Chief Estimator.

Qualifications

• Working towards a degree or diploma in civil engineering or a related field.
• Application of various computer software programs will be required, including word processing, spreadsheet applications and drafting.
• Ability to read blueprints.
• Knowledge of a variety of contract arrangements such as: Lump Sum, Design Build, Project Management, Construction Management, and Public/Private Partnership.
• A strong desire to work in a construction environment and prior field construction experience will be considered an asset.
