Job summary

PCL Constructors Canada Inc. in Toronto is seeking a Mechanical & Electrical Estimating Student for 4 to 8 months starting January 2027. You will support estimating activities, review quantity surveys with the lead estimator, and help with subtrade pricing and bid document control.

The role requires building envelope/course knowledge, ability to read drawings, and basic drafting/software skills, in a hands-on construction environment.

Qualifications

• Building envelope concepts and fundamental control layers (air, water, vapour, thermal).
• Able to read architectural drawings; field construction exposure is a plus.
• Familiar with word processing, spreadsheets and basic drafting software.

Responsibilities

• Understand and utilize estimating manuals, systems and forms.
• Review quantity survey assignment with lead or chief estimator.
• Transfer quantities to the lead estimator and provide major item quantities to pricing.
• Assist with subtrade solicitation and bid document control.
• Contribute to bid day assignments and site visits as needed.
• Develop relationships with subcontractors and support project teams.

We are seeking a Mechanical & Electrical Estimating Student for our Toronto District that is available for 4 to 8 months starting in January 2027 .

Here’s how a Mechanical & Electrical Estimating Student at our Toronto office contributes to the team:

Responsibilities

• Understand and utilize PCL’s estimating manuals, systems and forms.
• Review quantity survey assignment with lead estimator or Chief Estimator.
• Gets the chance to perform assigned quantity survey and transfer quantities to the lead estimator.
• Provides quantities of major purchase items to purchasing department for pricing.
• Creates an impact by performing general subtrade solicitation duties and helping with bid document control.
• Has the opportunity to perform bid day assignments.
• Experiences visiting the job sites periodically.
• Develops relationships with subcontractors.
• Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications

• Candidates must have taken a building envelope or building science course, and understand the fundamental control layers required within the building envelope (i.e. air, water, vapour and thermal control)
• Candidates must have a strong desire to work in a construction environment, able to read architectural drawings, and prior field construction experience will be considered an asset.
• Application of various computer software programs will be required, including word processing, spreadsheet applications and drafting.

The estimated hourly range for this role is $21.37- $31.33, based on your experience and qualifications. Final compensation will be confirmed as part of a personalized offer.
