Job summary

GFL Environmental Inc. in Cranbrook, AB, is seeking a qualified Heavy Duty Mechanic to perform maintenance and repairs on diesel, CNG, gas and electric trucks and equipment. You will use power tools, complete daily reports and plan repairs while coordinating with the parts team.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED; a technical diploma is desired, and previous Red Seal credentials are preferred. Benefits include Extended Health, dental, vision, RRSP, paid time off, and training

Qualifications

• 1+ year experience as a Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic
• Safety-sensitive functions as per company standards
• Follow detailed instructions, work independently and maintain accurate records
• Willingness to operate any vehicle or equipment necessary to perform job

Responsibilities

• Maintenance or repairs of diesel, CNG, gas and electric trucks and related heavy equipment
• Use power tools and hand instruments; assist with parts procurement
• Complete daily reports and work orders; plan repairs in M5 planner
• Review mechanical write-ups and coordinate repair schedules

Education

High school diploma or GED; technical diploma desired

A Day in the Life* of a Mechanic:

• Maintenance or repairs of diesel, CNG, gas and electrically operated trucks as well as associated heavy duty equipment
• Using various power tools, hand instruments and cutting-edge equipment
• Completing daily reports, work orders and ordering necessary parts
• Planning and scheduling repairs in M5 planner and procure parts
• Assisting in the review of mechanical write-ups and coordinate repair schedule

What's Required:

Mechanics must have:

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED); technical diploma desired
• 1+ year experience as a Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic
• Relevant criteria for safety-sensitive functions according to Company standards
• Follow detailed instructions, work independently and maintain accurate records
• Willingness to operate any vehicle or equipment necessary to perform job
• Exert physical effort including pushing, pulling, bending and lifting items up to 100 lbs.
• Use fine motor coordination with arm, hand, finger and leg dexterity
• Ability to kneel, crawl and climb
