We are seeking a dedicated, hardworking Material Handler to join our growing team in Dundas, ON. On our team, members wear many hats-acting as material handlers, equipment operators, maintenance support, and metal graders. In this role, you will be the primary face of the company in our yard, assisting a wide variety of customers bringing in recyclable metals, accurately weighing and classifying materials, and ensuring a fast, friendly customer experience.
This position is a full-time, year-round role. Because accuracy directly affects customer payouts and company operations, you will undergo an intensive 3-to-4-week paid training program at our high-volume Etobicoke facility to learn metal identification and grading through hands-on experience.
- Outdoor Environment: Year-round work outdoors in all weather conditions (hot summers, cold winters). All winter parkas, branded safety gear, gloves, hard hats, and PPE are provided by the company.
- Dundas Permanent Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, plus every other Saturday from 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM.
- Etobicoke Training Schedule (First 3-4 weeks): Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM, plus every other Saturday from 7:00 AM - 2:00 PM. Mileage/kilometers for the training commute are fully reimbursed weekly.

Responsibilities
- Greet customers arriving at the yard, direct them to designated unloading areas, and provide exceptional, patient customer service.
- Inspect, unload, and verify incoming metal materials (e.g., copper, shred, heavy melt, mixed metals, appliances) to ensure declarations match contents.
- Weigh customer materials using scales and accurately complete payout tickets based on exact weights and material classifications.
- Sort, grade, and classify various ferrous and non-ferrous metals with integrity and high attention to detail.
- Operate basic material handling equipment and tools to move, organize, and stack materials safely across the yard.
- Assist with general facility upkeep, inventory organization, and ongoing yard maintenance.
- Perform seasonal site maintenance, including manual snow shoveling and salting around scales and customer walkways during winter months.
- Maintain strict adherence to health, safety, and operational standards at all times.
Required Skills
- Customer Service & Communication: Proven experience in customer-facing environments (e.g., retail, grocery, bartending, food service, or hospitality). Strong patience and interpersonal skills to handle diverse customer personalities professionally.
- Aptitude & Detail Orientation: Ability to quickly learn, memorize, and accurately apply complex metal identification guidelines where financial accuracy is critical.
- Reliability & Coachability: Strong work ethic, common sense, and a willingness to take direction and learn on the job.
- Physical Capability: Ability to stand, bend, walk, and work outdoors for extended periods,
- Transportation: Valid driver's license and reliable personal vehicle (the Dundas site is not accessible by public transit).
- Attire: Must possess CSA-approved steel-toe work boots (annual boot reimbursement provided after conversion).
Nice to Have Skills
- Prior experience in construction, labor, or hands-on industrial environments.
- WHMIS Certificate.
- First Aid and CPR Certification.
Pay Transparency:
The expected hour rate for this position falls between $19 to $20/hour.
