Allied is looking for a Manager, Safety and Security to join our National Operations team in Toronto on a 12-month contract.

In the role of Manager, Safety and Security, you will support our National Operations with ensuring compliance with all standardized safety and security policies and procedures within the company, safeguarding our assets from legal improprieties and loss and recommending, reviewing and implementing safety and security programs under the guidance of the Senior Director, Safety & Security.

What will you do?- Manage and coordinate the operational security and life safety program in coordination with a third-party security providers, including allocation of required resources and the implementation and monitoring of work schedules/duties in accordance with legislative, company and operational requirements/standards.
- Manage the fire & life safety program, along with the OH&S programs and ensure applicable legislative codes, industry practices and company standards are maintained including developing and conducting employee training. This includes reviewing of quarterly, semi-quarterly and annual inspection reports and providing guidance on the recommendations from the reports.
- Review, approve, coordinate and track the deployment of additional security resources to properties to support operational needs and emergencies with a particular emphasis on the Toronto portfolio.
- Chair Joint Health & Safety Committee nationally (JH&SC) and ensure occupational health and safety is prioritized and effectively practised throughout all areas of the workplace.
- Implement and maintain a program of regular inspections, risk assessments and audits for the purposes of identifying and correcting hazardous, unsafe working conditions and physical security risks to our properties and users.
- Perform check-ins with security personnel to ensure conformance with contract requirements and ensure quality of service. Meet with security supervisors at least once per month to identify opportunities for improvement with building specific security programs
- Support emergency response and business continuity program including preparation and upkeep of Emergency Response Plan (ERP), Business Continuity Plan (BCP) and Fire Safety Evacuation Plans in support of an effective and sustained response effort in emergencies.
- Ensure company emergency management standards are maintained including: conduct of tenants and suppliers, training; ERP & BCP plans/processes; Monthly/Annual Emergency Drills; Post-incident debriefs; Emergency Notifications System(s), and the Emergency Response Line (ERL) process
- Manage an incident reporting program so that relevant incident data is captured, reported and analyzed to provide an accurate picture of incident patterns.
- Facilitate root cause analysis on major events and ensure corrective/preventative actions are identified and tracked to completion.
- Participate in capital project reviews to ensure appropriate safety and security systems are being implemented to conform with organizational standards and risk reduction strategies.
- Oversee electronic security systems and technology and ensure systems are operated, supervised and maintained in accordance with manufacturers and operational guidelines. This includes reviewing and approving the installation of new cameras, control points or other physical and electronic service measures to be deployed.
- Manage a physical security program and ensure that access control is maintained, and security measures effectively deter, delay, control and/or respond to a wide range of security threats.
- Respond to calls for service and security-related incidents as required, and conduct other operational duties as assigned.
- Ensuring that the customer service philosophies are met and are an important part of the everyday operation of the Safety & Security function.
What are we looking for?- College diploma (or equivalent business management qualification) in Security/Life Safety, Risk Management or Criminology-related field or a university degree in a related discipline is preferred
- Certification in First Aid, CPR and WHMIS
- A minimum of 5 years working in a commercial real estate safety and security environment and safety & security management, ideally at a property or properties of complex scope (i.e. large, mixed-use facility) – or equivalent work experience
- People management and leadership, with strong communication and people skills, including a proven ability to build relationships
- An assertive self-starter with the ability to work independently under minimal supervision
- Team player attitude
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Strong computer skills
- Strong knowledge of Security and Life Safety technology (i.e. CCTV, Access Control, Fire Alarm, Intrusion) and other related systems.
- Knowledge and understanding of applicable federal, provincial and municipal legislation and regulations in the area of Security and Life Safety management
- Sound knowledge of industry techniques and emergent trends in Security and Life Safety management, as well as Risk Management and Environmental Compliance.
Would be an asset:
- Professional certification in safety and/or security.
