Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate the activities of the security team, including scheduling, training, and performance evaluations.
- Monitor and manage all security operations, including access control, surveillance systems, and emergency response procedures.
- Conduct regular security assessments and audits to identify potential risks and implement corrective actions.
- Respond to and investigate security incidents, including alarms, disturbances, and safety breaches, and prepare detailed reports.
- Collaborate with other hospital departments, such as Human Resources and Risk Management, to support overall safety and security initiatives.
- Act as the primary point of contact for liaising with union stewards, addressing and resolving issues related to union matters, including grievance handling and contract interpretation.
- Participate in union meetings and negotiations as required, ensuring compliance with collective bargaining agreements.
- Oversee and conduct annual audits to ensure compliance with standards, manage security key distribution, and maintain proper documentation.
- Develop and implement security policies, emergency response plans, and procedures to enhance safety and compliance.
- Provide leadership and guidance to security personnel, fostering a positive work environment.
- Ensure all security equipment and systems are maintained and functioning effectively.
- Coordinate with law enforcement agencies as required.
- Maintain accurate records of security incidents and staff activities on shared databases.
- Update and maintain post orders, train staff on procedures, and ensure operational consistency.
- Work with Emergency Preparedness team to develop and conduct emergency drills.
- Manage security vendors and integration specialists.
- Maintain security initiatives and review monthly budgets, managing a multi-million-dollar budget.
- Oversee preventative maintenance scheduling and vendor relations for repairs.
- Participate in after-hours on-call emergencies.
- Identify KPIs and rework metrics, and conduct workplace inspections for quality and safety.
- Other duties as required.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent; Degree or Diploma in Criminal Justice, Security Management, or related field is an asset.
- Valid Security Officer License and relevant certifications.
- At least 3 years of experience in security management, preferably in healthcare or institutional settings.
Skills & Abilities
- Strong knowledge of security operations, emergency procedures, and safety regulations.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive situations professionally.
- Proficiency with security systems, including surveillance and access control.
- Excellent organization and time management skills.
Additional Skills
- Proficiency in Excel, JD Edwards or Oracle ERP systems, and Microsoft 365.
