Restaurant Manager - Toscana Italian Grill - Calgary, AB - Full-time, Permanent
About the Position
Toscana Italian Grill is a family-owned Italian restaurant focused on quality food, genuine hospitality, and creating a welcoming experience for our guests.
We are looking for an experienced Restaurant Manager to join our management team. This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who enjoys working with people, developing a strong team, and being actively involved in day-to-day restaurant operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily front-of-house operations and overall restaurant service
- Lead, supervise, and support servers, hosts, bartenders, and support staff
- Maintain a strong presence on the floor during service
- Ensure guests receive friendly, professional, and attentive service
- Handle guest concerns and resolve issues professionally and promptly
- Hire, onboard, train, coach, and develop employees
- Create and manage weekly staff schedules based on forecasted business levels
- Monitor labour costs and adjust staffing according to business needs
- Conduct pre-shift meetings and communicate expectations and daily priorities
- Hold employees accountable to restaurant policies and service standards
- Address performance concerns and complete corrective action when necessary
- Maintain a positive, respectful, and professional work environment
- Coordinate closely with kitchen management to maintain strong communication between front and back of house
- Manage reservations, table flow, wait times, and dining room efficiency
- Complete opening and closing management responsibilities
- Review server cash-outs, deposits, refunds, discounts, comps, and voids
- Monitor food and beverage quality, presentation, and consistency
- Assist with inventory counts, ordering, receiving, and waste control
- Help manage food, beverage, labour, and other operating costs
- Ensure restaurant cleanliness and organization standards are maintained
- Ensure food safety, liquor service, health, and workplace safety requirements are followed
- Identify equipment or maintenance issues and ensure they are addressed
- Assist with restaurant promotions, special events, and initiatives to increase sales
- Review guest feedback and identify opportunities to improve the restaurant
- Communicate operational concerns and opportunities to senior management
- Lead by example and assist the team wherever needed during busy periods
What We’re Looking For
- Previous restaurant management experience is strongly preferred
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to coach and motivate a team
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong understanding of restaurant operations and guest service
- Experience with staff scheduling and labour management
- Comfortable working with POS systems, cash handling, and daily financial controls
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
- Organized and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to remain professional and composed during busy services
- ProServe certification or willingness to obtain it
- Knowledge of Alberta restaurant, liquor, health, and workplace safety requirements is an asset
- Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
