Manager, Driver Safety

Full-Time

Moncton, NB (On-site)

The Manager, Driver Safety is responsible to support the organizational objective of reducing vehicle crashes and provide professional driver improvement training to include defensive driving techniques, safe driving practices, pre-trip training and ensure strict adherence to the Ministry of Transportation rules and regulations.

How You'll Help
  • Deliver accident cost reduction targets by holding Driver Safety Specialist (DSS) accountable for KPI’s including pro active and post accident training for their regions.
  • Review 100% of all accidents in region to ensure proper action taken and accident completed within 14 Days.
  • Review and ensure in-depth investigation is completed on specific accidents (off-road, jackknife, rear-end, collision at intersection, collision with pedestrian). Once in-depth investigation is completed, must be reviewed with manager.
  • Direct DSS activities related to carrier profile and accident trending for the regions they are responsible for.
  • Responsible for working with DSS to control speed in their regions.
  • Responsible to ensure all mandatory training including and not limited to seasonal training is completed and develop strategy to assist DSS to have training completed.
  • Own camera management in their regions, ensuring all cameras are fully utilized.
  • Audit yard interactions to ensure quality control and target with drivers achieved each month.
  • Do orientation quality control twice a year.
  • Support during DSS vacations.
  • Other Duties as required.
Your Skills & Experience
  • Minimum Secondary School completion and completion of all required safety related programs (i.e.: Winter Driving, Air Brakes, and Hazardous Loads).
  • Post-secondary training in logistics or business, an asset.
  • A suitable combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of 5 year’s experience in a similar role.
  • Previous Transportation or operational experience is preferred; various roles within transportation would be beneficial.
  • Preference given to applicants with Occupational Health and Safety experience.
  • Experience in Leading Safety Programs in Transportation Industry.
  • Experience in assessing safety needs and implementing program solutions.
  • Experience in dealing with Regulators, Officers and other Officials.
  • Experience in developing safety programs.
  • Experience in developing training materials.
  • Proven track record of successful safety management.
  • Previous experience managing people required.
  • Advanced PowerPoint & Excel abilities.
  • SQL / SharePoint 2007 / Access experience an asset.
  • AS400 experience an asset.
  • Bilingual in English & French is required.
  • Knowledge related to legal / safe operation of commercial equipment as to local laws and federal compliance standards.
  • Knowledge of Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations.
  • Analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Effective written and communications skills.
  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
