Job Description
Reporting to the President, this hands-on Maintenance Manager will be responsible for performing skilled tasks in electrical and mechanical repair and maintenance of equipment. Must be able to analyze, troubleshoot, dismantle, align, assemble, and adjust both electrical and mechanical equipment and machinery to maintain it in efficient operating condition. This role involves coordinating the day-to-day operation of the maintenance department. The Maintenance Manager is the primary contact for all maintenance-related activities, supervising 4 electricians across 2 shifts.
Requirements:
- Must have previous protein industry experience, be local to the G.T.A., and legally able to work in Canada.
Desired Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED
- Completion of a trade or equivalent education and maintenance/millwright experience
- Diploma or degree in mechanical, electrical, millwright, or industrial maintenance is a plus
- 'B' ticket
- Minimum 5 years of experience in machinery operation and maintenance within the food, specifically protein, industry
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide emergency and unscheduled repairs, maintain parts supply
- Must have experience with equipment such as Predust, Batter, Breading, Fryers, Ovens, Spiral freezers, Ishida weight scales, Pacmac baggers. Oversee installation, maintenance, and repair of this equipment.
- Perform mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic troubleshooting and repairs
- Manage loss prevention, risk management, security, maintenance, ventilation, heating, cooling, and daily activities
- Adhere to all health and safety standards according to legislation
- Plan and manage replacement of major capital items and maintenance costs
- Ensure 24/7 emergency service availability
- Supervise maintenance mechanics and coordinate with service providers and suppliers for repairs
- Monitor parts usage, manage inventory, and coordinate ordering of parts and supplies
- Document work orders and maintenance records accurately
- Conduct inspections for regulatory compliance
- Maintain HVAC systems, boilers, pumps, fan units, control panels, thermostats, cooling towers, etc.
- Maintain environmental safeguards and alarm systems, fire alarms, extinguishers
- Monitor emergency generator operation and refueling
- Prioritize and plan work for self and staff, monitor work quality, and provide training as needed
- Read and interpret manuals and work orders for maintenance tasks
- Diagnose issues, replace or repair parts, test, and adjust equipment
- Perform preventive maintenance regularly
- Handle plumbing and carpentry functions as needed
- Identify and report faulty operations or defective materials
- Maintain safety standards and clean work areas
- Update company records and department databases
- Prioritize maintenance work orders and requisitions
- Follow departmental procedures for maintenance and quality improvement
- Stay updated with new technology and adapt accordingly
- Maintain inventory of equipment, manuals, and warranties
- Prepare monthly reports and budgets
