Reporting to the Director of Operations, The Fleet Maintenance Manager will oversee the maintenance and repair programs of our company’s fleet of vehicles. This role is responsible for ensuring that all vehicles remain in top working condition, comply with safety regulations, and are maintained cost-effectively. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, extensive knowledge of fleet maintenance, and a commitment to operational efficiency.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Create SOP’s related to vehicle operation and assisting in the development of training programs related to vehicle operating best practices. Foster a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement. Conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching for team development.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive fleet maintenance program to maximize vehicle uptime and reliability. Schedule and oversee preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs to ensure fleet safety and efficiency. Monitor vehicle performance, fuel consumption, and repair trends to optimize fleet operations. Ensure compliance with company policies, manufacturer recommendations, and government regulations. Coordinate with external vendors, service providers, and mechanics for outsourced maintenance and repairs.
- Ensure all fleet operations adhere to federal, state, and local transportation regulations. Maintain accurate records of vehicle maintenance, inspections, and compliance documentation. Implement safety training programs to reduce accidents, downtime, and liability. Conduct audits and inspections to ensure adherence to fleet policies and best practices.
- Utilize fleet management software to track vehicle performance, maintenance schedules, and repair history. Generate reports on fleet utilization, costs, breakdowns, and efficiency improvements. Recommend technology solutions to enhance fleet operations and reduce downtime.
- Develop and manage the fleet maintenance budget, ensuring cost-effective solutions for repairs and replacements. Track and control expenses related to fuel, repairs, parts, and labor. Identify opportunities to reduce costs while maintaining high service standards. Evaluate vendor contracts and negotiate favorable terms for maintenance and repair services.
- Establish and maintain relationships with service providers and partners. In collaboration with Strategic Sourcing, assist with negotiating vendor contracts, manage service level agreements (SLAs), and monitor vendor performance. Identify and onboard new partners to expand service coverage and capabilities
EXPERIENCE
- 10+ years experience managing fleets in industries such as transportation and logistics.
- Strong knowledge of vehicle mechanics, diesel and gas engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems. Knowledge of Electric vehicle technology and applications a plus. Knowledge of sustainability initiatives in fleet operations, such as fuel efficiency and emissions reduction. Familiarity with GPS tracking systems and technology
- 5+ years experience in similar management role
EDUCATION
- Diploma/Degree/Professional certifications/ or relevant experience. Certifications: ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) Certification, DOT Compliance knowledge, or other relevant certifications are a plus
