Under the responsibility of the Unit Manager, supervises and coordinates activities of all workers engaged in his department. Plans, directs, and coordinates activities concerned with design, construction, modification, and maintenance of equipment and machinery in plant.
Main tasks and responsibilities of the position:
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable health & safety legislations. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Directs workers for electrical, electronic, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic maintenance and repair of machinery and equipment.
- Assists workers in diagnosing malfunctions in machinery and equipment.
- Directs workers engaged in dismantling, assembling, and installing industrial machinery.
- Prepares requisitions and maintains supply of spare parts.
- Studies production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignments.
- Interprets specifications, blueprints, and job orders to workers, and assigns duties.
- Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.
- Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, quality of product, and to increase efficiency of the department or work crew.
- Ensures compliance with all health & safety legislation, safe procedures, and requirements, including participation in regular inspections with the Unit Manager and taking necessary actions on reported hazards.
- Defines, schedules, implements, and documents preventive maintenance of industrial equipment and building systems.
- Participates in implementing safe procedures (SOP) for the department.
- Directs maintenance of plant buildings and coordinates requirements for new designs, surveys, and maintenance schedules for equipment and machinery to promote efficient plant operations while maintaining regulatory compliance.
- Develops and implements capital projects to address deficiencies and improve plant operations.
- Oversees preparation of bids and participates in awarding contracts for outside services and acquisitions. Ensures effective supervision of contractor employees on plant premises.
- Tests newly installed machines and equipment to ensure they meet contract specifications.
