Job summary

Smurfit Westrock, located in Guelph, Ontario, is seeking an Industrial Millwright Apprentice to join the maintenance team on steady nights (Mon–Fri). The role requires a high school diploma and enrollment in an Industrial Millwright/Mechanical program, with 433A license pursuit.

Candidates should be physically fit and prepared for overtime as needed. The offer includes a starting wage of $34.68/hour, with benefits from date of hire and a pension plan after six months.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and diagnose plant equipment issues, finding root causes and documenting long-term fixes.
• Assist with machinery breakdowns and determine temporary vs permanent solutions based on production needs.
• Maintain preventative maintenance and regular lubrication across equipment.
• Support boiler systems, heating, steam, and energy supply operations.
• Assist with minor electrical repairs and safe reset procedures.

The Smurfit Westrock Guelph facility is looking for an Industrial Millwright Apprentice to work as part of the maintenance team. We currently have an opening on steady nights – Monday to Friday. Shifts are subject to change based on business needs.

All successful applicants must be able to provide a satisfactory criminal background check and pre-employment medical.

Job Duties:

• Troubleshoot problems on plant equipment and facilitate and determine maintenance requirements. Ability to go to root cause of problems. Perform proper follow-up on repairs to implement long-term solutions.
• Assist with machinery breakdowns on plant equipment, facility, and building. Ability to determine the need for temporary solutions or permanent solutions based on time constraints given by production.
• Maintain preventative maintenance programs and ensures regular checks and lubrication on all equipment.
• Assist Maintenance Department with maintaining operation of the boiler systems, heating, steam, and energy supply.
• Assist in minor electrical repairs and reset safely.
• Assists with the installation of plant equipment and occasionally assists in equipment design.
• Know what fits are required for various services, including antifriction bearings and be able to make such fits.
• Be able to handle heavy equipment safely and have knowledge of foundation work.
• Assists in the development of the plant occupational health and safety program.

What you need to work at Smurfit Westrock:

• High school diploma
• 3 rd or 4 th year millwright apprentice - enrolled in Industrial Millwright/Mechanical course and pursuing Certification of Industrial Millwright 433A license
• Experience in a manufacturing environment considered an asset
• Technical knowledge
• Physically fit
• Able to work steady night shift – Monday to Friday
• Able to work overtime as required.
