Competitive Starting Salary based upon experience

Did you know that 34,000+ Canadians are directly employed in the recycling industry? Interested in becoming part of Canada’s workforce that’s shaping our environment?

Here’s what we do…

Combined Metal Industries (CMI for short!) sources and processes recycled ferrous and non-ferrous metals across North America and ensure they do not end up in a landfill or go to waste. Our recycling stream ensures that all the ferrous and non-ferrous metals that enter our yards will create something new again!

Here’s where you come in!

The Logistics Specialist is responsible for coordinating over-the-road (OTR) freight operations with a focus on hauling, dumping, and packaging loads across domestic and international borders. This role plays a critical part in managing end-to-end logistics solutions, ensuring cost-efficiency, compliance, and timely delivery. The ideal candidate is a skilled negotiator, understands supplier insurance and legal terms, and can manage cross-border shipping risks with precision.

Sound good so far? Here’s what you’ll be responsible for in this role…

  • Plan, book, and schedule over the road inbound and outbound shipments including cross-border freight.
  • Oversee partnerships with carriers.
  • Identify and address potential risks.
  • Analyze logistics data and KPIs to assess opportunities for cost reduction and process improvement.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure smooth freight execution.
  • Engage with management by providing solutions and updates on logistical obstacles or setbacks.
  • Contribute to continuous process improvement initiatives focused on operational efficiency.

We think it would be ‘#&@!’ing awesome if you have…

  • Post-secondary education in Supply Chain, Logistics, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of logistics or transportation experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in rate negotiation with strong commercial and business acumen
  • Knowledge of over-the-border transportation regulations and customs compliance (U.S./Canada or international).
  • Familiarity with insurance policies related to freight carriers and suppliers.
  • Proficient with transportation management software, and Microsoft Office tools, knowledge with load board systems is an asset.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Excellent communication skills – verbal and written.
  • Ability to demonstrate personal initiative, ownership and accountability

At CMI, we’re committed to offering you the best, including:

  • A competitive salary with comprehensive benefits and performance-based increases.
  • Long-term job stability.
  • A supportive team environment where you can learn, grow, and advance your career.
  • A strong focus on health and safety—for you and the communities we impact.
  • An opportunity to contribute to environmental sustainability and make a meaningful difference.
