Job description

John Ross & Sons Ltd. is a fourth generation, family owned, scrap metal recycler. The company is the largest scrap metal recycling facility in Atlantic Canada and has been in operation for over 70 years, primarily in Halifax. John Ross & Sons Ltd. specializes in purchasing and processing all ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metals.

We are currently seeking a dynamic individual to join our team in Bayers Lake as a Logistics Coordinator!

As the ideal candidate, you have strong attention to detail and exceptional analytical skills. You learn new processes and systems quickly and work calmly under pressure. You possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and thrive in a client-focused, team-oriented environment. With the ability to adapt to changing priorities, you are flexible and don't mind taking on extra work to ensure the department is at the highest level of efficiency.

Essential functions will include, but are not limited to:

  • Ability to manage and motivate a diverse team of drivers
  • Field phone calls/emails/texts from customers/sales
  • Monitor GPS information to make best use of company assets
  • Notify drivers of pick-up and delivery assignments
  • Monitor drivers throughout the day to ensure adherence to schedules and assist with delays
  • Ensure compliance with all quality control and safety procedures
  • Ensure BINs are inputted correctly into CRO
  • Advise delivery yards of expected BINS and product type in a timely manner
  • Input scale ticket in Mayer for BINS and manage BIN tracking
  • Update shipment tracking system and maintain timely data integrity
  • Coordinate with customers to schedule drop-offs/pick-ups
  • Provide scale tickets to customer/sales as required
  • Invoice customers daily/monthly
  • Input weights into MAYER for payment to customers and pass scale tickets to purchasing team for payment
  • Measure and report service and operational data and efficiencies, identifying and implementing continuous improvement opportunities
  • Maintain communication with Logistics Manager to report issues on a daily basis and develop solutions to ensure productivity and efficiency with operations
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Possess a thorough understanding of business processes and key performance indicators
  • 3+ years experience in a similar, fast-paced role
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Utilization of internal house systems (CRO, Time Vue and Mayer)
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication and organization skills
  • Ability to work independently in a demanding and fast-paced environment with minimal supervision
  • Ability to plan, coordinate and monitor several tasks while retaining focus on overall business and customer needs
  • Able to work Monday to Friday, 7am-5pm; rotating Saturday, 7am-12pm
