Job summary

BCITSA is seeking a part-time Line Cook to support Habitat Pub operations. You will prepare and cook quality items for daily pub service and events, ensuring proper temperatures, labeling, dating, and rotation; clean workspaces and assist with catering take-down.

The role requires FoodSafe Level 1, a related Diploma, and 1–2 years cooking in a high-volume kitchen, with ability to lift 25 lbs and work under pressure.

Responsibilities

  • Restock line items and prepped food as needed
  • Store and prepare product at correct temperatures and labels

Start & End Date: August 24, 2026 - June 25, 2027

Compensation: $23.00 - $27.40/hr + tips

The Opportunity

Line Cook is responsible for preparing and cooking quality food items efficiently for the daily pub operations, and other events as needed. You work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment to contribute to overall customer service and satisfaction. You ensure that all product is stored and prepared at the correct temperatures, is labelled, dated and rotated, and stored according to type. You clean all work areas, equipment and dishes, and dispose of garbage and recycling. You also support the kitchen and take down catering events as needed.

What You Will Do
  • FOOD PREPARATION:
  • Prepare and present high-quality catering and pub food efficiently to contribute to overall customer service and satisfaction
  • Slice vegetables, meats and bread products, and portion them appropriately
  • Prepare proteins including fish, chicken and beef
  • Precook necessary ingredients as well as pre-assemble dishes and ingredients with appropriate portions
  • Restock line items and prepped food as needed
  • Store and prepare all product at the correct temperatures
  • Communicate with team to ensure chits are understood and presentation is coordinated
  • Make soup daily following recipes
  • OPERATIONAL DUTIES:
  • Understand and follow all policies and procedures
  • Ensure pub is a safe environment for all users
  • Set up and take down the line
  • Clean all work areas, equipment and dishes
  • Maintain deep-fryer cleanliness and oil quality
  • Label, date and rotate all product, and store according to type
  • Provide support for the dishwasher during slower times
  • Document any product waste
  • Take down catering events as needed
  • Empty garbage’s and take bags out to dumpster; break down cardboard and take to recycling bin
  • OTHER RELATED DUTIES:
  • Support Student Executives and staff members for their respective initiatives
  • Assist in training employees
  • Assist other staff with duties, especially when busy
  • Other related duties as required
  • Working as a team player and keep a consistent food regardless of shift time
  • Attend all staff meetings and training sessions as required
