Job summary

YMCA Calgary is hiring Lifeguards and Swim Instructors for the Brookfield Residential YMCA at Seton. The role supports safe aquatic programming, customer service, and program delivery across multiple shifts.

Compensation aligns with the posted salary, with benefits and ongoing training available. Candidates must hold a National Lifeguard - Pool certification, current First Aid with CPR-C, and YMCA instructor credentials.

Qualifications

• Lifeguard and Swim Instructor will have: National Lifeguard - Pool certification.
• Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C within the last 12 months from an approved AB OHS provider.
• YMCA Swim Instructor or Swim for Life Instructor certification.
• Lifesaving Instructor would be considered an asset.
• Should be able to work morning, evening, and weekend shifts.
• Evidence of a clear Police Information Check including a Vulnerable Sector Search.
• Three professional references.

Responsibilities

• Ensure a safe aquatic environment by following National Lifeguard standards and/or YMCA Policies and Procedures.
• Demonstrate exceptional customer service.
• Know YMCA programs and services.
• Complete administrative tasks, update class rosters, lesson plans, check equipment, and perform light maintenance.
• Perform all scheduled water tests.
• Keep pool area clean and organized.
• Respond to emergencies according to standards.
• Work as a team and communicate effectively with staff, volunteers and members.
• Attend all scheduled in-services and YMCA training.

• Lifeguard and Swim Instructor will have:
  • National Lifeguard - Pool certification

Asset if certification is issued by one of the following five Canadian organizations: Canadian Red Cross, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Lifesaving Society, St John's Ambulance and/or Canadian Ski Patrol.
