Job summary

YMCA Calgary is a charity that ignites the potential of Calgarians. The Aquatics Attendant (Part Time) supports safe, fun water activities and helps maintain a welcoming pool environment at Rocky Ridge.

The role requires age 15+, Bronze Cross, Standard First Aid with CPR-C, and related certifications; duties include pre-use checks, supervising slides and towers, enforcing rules, and supporting staff with training and safety compliance.

Qualifications

  • Age 15 years or older.
  • Bronze Cross Certification.
  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR‑C certifiable within the last 12 months.
  • Instructor certification (YSI or LSI) is an asset.
  • National Lifeguard – Pool (NL‑Pool) is an asset.
  • Evidence of a clear Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.
  • Three professional references.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and document pre‑use checks of all water slides scheduled for use.
  • Supervise the safe operation of the water slide and/or dive towers.
  • Tell patrons when they are allowed to use the amenity after confirming area is clear.
  • Monitor safety and maintenance of pool deck and change rooms; report concerns.
  • Complete light cleaning and maintenance tasks as needed.
  • Work as part of the staff and volunteer team.

Aquatics Attendant (Part Time)

Salary: $15.00/hr – $18.29/hr
Start Date: Immediately

What qualifications are we looking for?

  • Age 15 years or older
  • Bronze Cross Certification
  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR‑C certifiable within the last 12 months from an approved AB OHS provider (preferred organizations: Canadian Red Cross, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Lifesaving Society, St John’s Ambulance, and/or Canadian Ski Patrol)
  • Instructor certification (YSI or LSI) considered an asset
  • National Lifeguard – Pool (NL‑Pool) considered an asset
  • Evidence of a clear Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search
  • Three professional references
What does this role look like at YMCA Calgary?

Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Perform and document pre‑use checks of all water‑slides scheduled for use
  • Supervise the safe operation of the water‑slide and/or dive towers
  • Tell patrons when they are allowed to use the amenity, after visually confirming that the water‑slide and flume, catch basin, or dive tank is clear from the previous user
  • Monitor the general safety and maintenance of the pool deck, change rooms, and associated areas by performing regularly scheduled walk‑throughs, and report concerns to the appropriate staff member or address the issue directly
  • Complete light cleaning and maintenance tasks as needed
  • Work as a cooperative part of the staff and volunteer team
  • Attend (20) hours of Association in‑service training throughout the year
  • Monitor hot‑tub capacities as requested
  • Support with pool rule education and the wrist‑banding of children within YMCA Calgary policies
  • Maintain certification in accordance with YMCA Calgary Aquatics policies
