Job summary

Jarlette Health Services is seeking a Life Enrichment Coordinator to lead and evaluate activities that support residents’ well-being at Southampton Care Centre in Southampton, ON. You will plan culturally sensitive programs and collaborate with teams and families to maintain engagement and autonomy.

The role requires a post-secondary diploma or degree in recreation/therapeutic fields, healthcare experience in long-term care, and a commitment to ongoing education.

Qualifications

  • Requires post-secondary diploma or degree in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology, gerontology or equivalent.
  • Experience in health care or relevant field per long-term care act requirements.
  • Montessori or gentle persuasion approach preferred.
  • Experience with seniors in long-term care setting.
  • Knowledge of program planning, implementation and evaluation for cognitive differences.
  • Active interest in ongoing education.
  • Knowledge of community resources and recreation program development.
  • Computer literacy required.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement and evaluate culturally sensitive activities addressing spiritual, intellectual, social, emotional and physical needs.
  • Monitor participation and maintain resident autonomy in activity selection.
  • Collaborate with departments and residents’ families; connect residents with the broader community.
  • Provide ongoing training to the team; assist with budgeting for the department.

Southampton Care Centre is a fully accredited long term care home in Southampton, Ontario and serves 160 residents. Southampton is a lakeside community on Lake Huron, known for its white sand beaches, historic downtown, and cultural arts scene. Situated at the mouth of the Saugeen River and approximately 49 km south of Owen Sound, it provides a peaceful atmosphere for residents and visitors alike, with diverse dining options, local shops, and activities suited for beach-goers and art enthusiasts.

Join our team as a Life Enrichment Coordinator!

Reporting to the Executive Director, this position is instrumental in fostering a vibrant and engaging environment for residents to ensure their well-being and satisfaction.

The Life Enrichment Coordinator is responsible for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of culturally sensitive activities for residents. These activities address spiritual, intellectual, social, emotional, and physical needs. A crucial element of this function is monitoring participation and ensuring residents maintain choice and autonomy in selecting activities.

The Life Enrichment Coordinator collaborates closely with other departments and residents’ families, facilitates resident connection with the wider community, and provides ongoing training to the team. They are also responsible for the capital and operational budgeting processes for the department.

We are looking for the following qualifications and traits:

  • Successful completion of a post-secondary diploma or degree in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology, gerontology or other related field from an Ontario post secondary institution, or a post secondary diploma, degree or certificate granted in another jurisdiction that in the reasonable opinion of the licensee is equivalent.
  • Experience in the health care or relevant field/setting as required under the Fixing Long Term Care Act, 2021 ss. 72 (2) and Ontario Regulation 246/22);
  • Gentle persuasion approach or Montessori preferred;
  • Experience working with seniors in a long-term care setting;
  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience in individual and group program planning, implementation, and evaluation for those with differences in cognitive abilities;
  • Must demonstrate an active interest in ongoing education;
  • Must have knowledge of community resources, recreation program development and techniques;
  • Must be computer literate
