Job summary

Jarlette Health Services is seeking a Life Enrichment Aide to support residents at Elizabeth Centre in Val Caron, Ontario. The role involves organizing and delivering daily recreation and social activities, in alignment with resident needs and family input.

The successful candidate will contribute to care plans, support well-being, and follow health and safety requirements while collaborating with the care team. This is a part-time, on-site position at 2100 Main Street in Val Caron.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary diploma/degree in recreation or related field is an asset.
  • Active enrollment in related program under the Act is an asset.
  • Experience in geriatric rehabilitation or long-term care is an asset.
  • Must demonstrate an active interest in ongoing education.
  • Must be flexible, innovative and creative.
  • Must be computer literate.

Responsibilities

  • Implements and communicates to residents and families a schedule of recreation and social activities.
  • Assesses resident interests and abilities; incorporates input from residents and families.
  • Contributes to resident care plans, quality improvement initiatives, and promotes independence and well-being.
  • Ensures resident safety by following health and safety regulations and communicating with the interdisciplinary team.

Elizabeth Centre is a fully accredited long term care home in Val Caron, Ontario and serves 128 residents. Val Caron, situated in Northeastern Ontario, is located approximately 18 km north of the City of Sudbury's downtown core. The community offers a blend of urban and rural living, with access to natural landscapes and outdoor recreational activities typical of the Sudbury area. The community is known for its family-friendly environment and is part of a region that has a rich history in mining and natural resources.

Join our team as a Life Enrichment Aide!

Reporting to the Life Enrichment Coordinator, the Life Enrichment Aide implements and communicates to all residents and families a schedule of recreation and social activities that are offered during days, evenings and weekends. This involves assessing resident interests and abilities and incorporating resident and family input. This role also contributes to resident care plans, quality improvement initiatives, the promotion of resident independence and well-being, and staying current with best practices in activity programming. The Life Enrichment Aide must also ensure resident safety by adhering to all health and safety legislation (such as the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act) and maintain effective communication with the interdisciplinary team and residents' families.

We are looking for the following qualifications and traits:
  • A post-secondary diploma or degree in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology, gerontology or other related field from a community college or university is an asset; or
  • Are enrolled in a community college or university in a diploma or degree program in such a field as required under the Fixing Long Term Care Act, 2021, ss. 79 and Ontario Regulation ss. 73/22 (1); or
  • Experience in another recreational or social programming capacity that would provide the related skills, knowledge and experience required to fulfill the role.
  • Experience in Geriatric rehabilitation or Long-Term Care is an asset
  • Must demonstrate an active interest in ongoing education
  • Must be flexible, innovative and creative
  • Must be computer literate
